Landing Gear on a Flying Wing?

Has anyone ever put landing gear on their flying wings?
I'm not talking about Superfly's... I'm talking about taking a regular, all foam, no tail, flying wing, and putting wheels on it. I'd love to see pictures and/or designs you guys have come up with...
How far behind the CG should rear wheels go in a trike set up?

The main wheels should be directly under, or just slightly aft of, the center of gravity when the wing is stalled. If you know the angle of attack that your plane stalls (it'll usually be between 14 & 18 degrees) then you can work it out in a drawing. With the root horizontal (actually it would be better to use MAC as the reference) draw a vertical line through the CG, then draw a line through the CG at an angle equal to the stall AoA. The axis of the landing gear wheels will be on this line. Now draw a line from the lowest aft part of the model perpendicular to the last line. Where they intersect is a good place for the main gear to contact the ground. You can put the wheels farther back but it will get hard to lift the nose and you may end up with a very noisy race car . Most successful 'wings have a long nose gear so that they don't have to try to lift the nose with the elevons

Re: landing gear

Take a look at http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=699801
you can't really see the gear but it's there, believe me. Also note that this is a true flying wing, no fins.

Hi

We did it, on a queen bee (windrider) of 2.50metter.
It's also a retract, 1 servo for the 3 arms

So far, only 1 fly with a problem on 1 wing (nothing to do with the landing gear), no damage.

It's seems to be nice, we need to change some things before the next flight.

Thanks for the great info! I think I'm going to try this on my 22" wing for now. I probably won't try retracts. But a steerable nose wheel would be cool! Do you guys know of any more pictures of wings with wheels?

Here are a few

A tiny depron Dunne

Stabiloplan IV 15 oz

Erik van den Hoogen's big Horten IX

"Black Star ", a project by a group of college students to set the endurance record.

I have no idea who this guy is but his little 4 engine 'wing is sitting on wheels. Oh, wait a minute, looks like it's Keith Shaw .

Many of Jeff Imel's plans have landing gear options.

Of course all the man rated 'wings have some kind of LG

Thanks Norm,
That's a lot of references. Now all I need to do is find some landing gear to fit...

Those are nice but much much too big. For a 22" wing even 30mm wheels would be a bit large. I don't even touch planes that small but if I were I'd consider a home made carbon fiber leaf spring main gear
