I just got my new 450 XP in today and after getting everything balanced and pitched I fired it up. It has an Eagle 30A speed control running a 3500Kv. After startup on some trials it would make a strange beeping sound then no power was sent to the motor? We could smell the ESC while standing over it. All this was not even half throttle while sitting in the grass.

I was working on gettng the right swash mix with the DX7 and with the motor unplugged the ESC got hot enough to smell? Is this normal? Im assuming its one or all of the servos dissapating heat in the ESC for some reason?

Are you running a separate BEC?

Sounds like your electronics are too much for the internal bec to handle.Time for an external one and I personally think it's a good idea anyway no matter what brand of esc.

I am running pretty much a similar setup except the GY401 for the gyro and I definately needed and external BEC.I went with the KoolFlights UBEC. Heavy but awesome.

Thanks for the info, I just got done ordering a sport BEC. Should I stop trying to get a smooth hover untill it comes in? Basically, will I burn up my ESC flying low tuning?

My esc gave up the ghost last week for some reason. So I have ordered another esc and a SportBec. My question is: what setting should I have on the SportBec; 6V or the other setting. Oh by the way, this is for my Trex SE. Thanks guys!

I just received my SportBec yesterday. Where is the best location for it on my Trex SE? On the side of the frame or up next to the ESC? Or somewhere else? Thanks a bunch!

Anywhere it fits, but away from the gyro.

I just did a test hover to check the gyro settings. The motor is getting very hot also, 198 degrees after 1 min. ESC was at 171 degrees. Will the BEC solve both high temp problems?

I dont know what brand the motor is? It just says 3500 with some Chinese writing also. The ESC is Eagle 30A. 2200 mAh battery

The BEC won't help the motor. A smaller pinion will, though, by reducing the headspeed and therefore the power required for hover.

Check your amp draw at full picth. It could be geared wrong.

Here is a close up of the gear mesh. Does this look to tight? As far as the tail goes it does not look streched or twisted. When it spins down it does not come to an abrupt stop but it will not spin as long as my CP2 with a one way gear by any means.



I'll add some photos in case there is a misalignment that I am overlooking.

That's a 15T pinion, you just need a smaller one. Try 11T, if there's not enough headspeed use 13.
