I bought a couple of planes recently, which has made the 12 year old in me come back to life, so now I am looking for more...

The Discovery Store is selling a RTF ducted fan jet for 50$.

Has anyone seen/flown this model? The model number given on the page, 4190, sounds like one of Estes'. Looks like a cheap way to get basic, 2 channel EDF electronics. Also, as the Discovery Store is closing its brick and mortar stores, there may be sales of these when I go to Maine at teh end of the month...

Indeed... What I have gotten from lurking on these forums in the last month or so is that the real fun starts after the plane is destroyed and the electronics are freed to be reused...

The description also says its a single stick controller. So NO, dont get it

and if its one stick that means its only 1 ch so NOOOOOO! waste of $$$$$

Its 2 channel, throttle/rudder, EPP construction, flies nice out of the box and as others have said it is fantastic for conversions

Might be able to find one in B&M cheaper, they are closing all their stores. All the inventory has been sold to a liquidator and they are selling everything off the usual way...which means by the time the discounts hit decent levels, all the good stuff is gone.

This is the same plane as the Estes Blue Angels jet.
I think $50 is actually a fair price. The plane is very
minimalist, especially the controls (bang bang rudder
and **NO** throttle control -- once you launch it, you
can't even shut it off by killing the TX). However, if you
do everything just right, you can get a fantastic flight
out of it -- and it is, after all, an EDF jet.

But as everyone says, it's best as a candidate for 3 or 4
channel mod. I bought a second one just for that purpose.

PS: don't forget, you're going to pay another $10, $20 or
even $30 for shipping. You can often find these planes on
ebay, and sometimes beat that price (combined with
shipping).
