G'day thinking,

I got a confirmation Email from Albert after ordering. It took 5 calendar days to get to Australia.

The wires are set in position and into the recepticle using hot glue and the connector recepticles are installed into the airframe using epoxy.

More photos tonight as I get her closer to flying

Wing to fuselage

Didn't get the model ready for my flying trip. Just not enough motivation.

I only build under tight deadlines for the Australia Day weekend.

Tonight I got one wing on with the MPX connectors doing the spoileron hook-up automatically. Now I have to complete the other side

The other side is now done.

All zipped up & ready to go. Wing to fuselage joint is acceptable.

Hi Salisbug,great Job!
For hook-up automatically, u started with the fuselage....
After this, how do you mark the right position for the MPX connectors at the wing?....for doing the spoileron hook-up automatically.
Fixing the Wing-Connector against the Fuselage-Connector a little bit at the left or right side and i will have a little Problem..i think so..

The wing has a hole for the servo lead exit as supplied.

* Put the wing on the joiner and get it a couple of inches away from the fuselage.
* Plug the wing connector to the fuselage one.
* Mark the fwd and aft ends of the connector boss on the wing root.
* Remove the wings and use a dremel router bit to open up the root rib
* Install the connector into the wing and mark the outline of the connector flange.
* Rout the recess for the flange
* Mask the fuselage root fairing around the connector plug
* Re-assemble the wing and connector leaving the wing an inch or so out from the fuselage
* Apply a some adhesive on the inside of the wing connector flange
* Place the wing in its final position and hold there for 5 minutes
* Dis-assemble, remove the tape and its done

Mounted the taiplane

I used my mk 1 Lego jig to align the taiplane to the wings. The photos below show the issues I faced.

* The fin is slightly out of vertical

Nothing could be done apart from trying to hit it with the heat gun but I decided against that action. It takes a fair bit of heat and there's a fair chance of damaging the glass & finish. I'll learn to live with the crooked fin. So to fix it I sanded a bit off the top R/H side of the fin using my Permagrit sander but stopped when I hit glass. The tailplane was still nowhere near level and it took 8 staggered layers of masking tape on the top left of the fin dropping off evenly to half way across the fin to get it to sit straight.

To make matters worse the front tailplane fixing screw hole was partially blocked and needed a clean out using a fine Dremel router bit. The screw then went in but at a horrible angle. To top it off the threaded insert buried within the glass layers came loose when tightening the screw and needed to have some thin cyano wicked in to keep it from turning.

A bit trying but done none the less.

Just a tad more.........

Made an rx tray from hard balsa. I then smeared some 5 minute epoxy over it to smooth the surface for the adhesive backed velcro to stick to. I attached the rx and stuck the tray and the switch in using hot glue.

I was about to do a rough radio setup, but the battery pack was just like a dodo. It's on the charger and I'm sitting on my lemon watching the tube.
