Brushless engine for glow Mig-27 target drone

Hobby Lobby doesn't think the brushless motors they have will fly this, whats next? 67in wingspan 792 sq in area 4lbs out of the box. Normally flew with size 60 engine.

4lb out the box...so needs at least 4lb of flightpack (you want excitement right?) and an AUW of 8lb....so around 800W of power on maybe 32cells?

Thats fine, around 25A is fine...so you need a motor that can handle 25A on 32cells, or maybe a bit more on a few less, for extra excitement.

I think the biggest hackers will do that OK. And others. I think possibly a big kontroniks will - check their sites.

Not going to be a slow model tho

Cool, I haven't seen one of those in Years! That shouldn't be hard to find a motor for at all. One of the big Hackers/Kontroniks/Aveox's geared down swinging a 15-16" prop would haul it around nicely!! A friend of mine has a .60 size P-51 and he's running a large brushed 1800 series Plattenberg 2:1GB (high torque motor) on 24-2400s swinging a 16X10" prop at 7500RPMand it is a 90-100mph plane out of a slight dive and climbs out of sight at a 45 degree angle. Flight times are 5-6 minutes of lead footed driving If you ran 30+ cells you could get away with CP1700 sized cells and a lower Kv motor.
Where's Ed with his motocalc??

If the kit weighs 4 lbs, assume 20 cells (conservative). Assume about 2 oz. per 2400 mah cell, so you are up to 64 oz. + 40 oz =104 oz. Add the weight of a motor, gearbox, radio system, etc., and you are in the ballpark of 7.5-8 lbs (I am rounding here). At eight lbs, you need 800 watts to reach the 100watts/lb. rating that you will want. That means you will have to draw 40 amps on twenty cells. There are many brushless motor systems that will fit that bill.

Yah, are these still available? I remember these and the autogyro Hind helicopter were sold to modelors. The Hind was really cool looking in the air. Both were catapault launched for the military.

Check with chicago bill and seneca on rc unverse in the used aircraft classifieds, run a search on"mig" using the bottom of the page search engine. Chicagobill has like 8 boxes of these. He also has some profile F-16s.
I have never seen anything about the Hinds, that would really be a collectors item.
