First flight was uneventful. I took off at half throttle and climbed to altitude. At full throttle the plane dove witch told me I had a problem with my angle of attack. The plane was also a little radical so I landed .

After correcting the CG and angle of attack however, it’s a whole new animal . I will try and get some video later today, it flies great. It’s very responsive like the Micro SSX yet will slow down a lot more. It rolls as good as the Micro SSX also.


I still have some work to do on the design.
1. The plane weighs just less than 6 ounces. I want to take some more weight out.
2. Fix wing saddles to correct angle of attack problem.
3. Increase rudder size.
4. Design kit layout
5. Instructions.
My goal is to have kits available in two - three weeks, ARFs 6 months max.

Are you using the same power setup on this as you use on the Micro SSX?

Yes. The MBX uses about 80% of the Micro SSX parts.

This looks great. Have you given any thought to adding a fabric profile fuselage (basically a lightweight fabric triangle with one corner secured near the tailfeathers with thread, one just behind the firewall, and the third somewhere along the top wing)? This should add barely any weight and maybe provide enough fuselage area for KE flight. That would be neat if you could get it to work. If it flies like the micro ssx though it would definitely need more rudder authority for that.

Are you going to announce when kits are available? (are you taking pre-orders?)

I am working on the second prototype with the latest round of changes. I will be testing it in a few days. If that goes well then I will be starting kit production ASAP. The big hold-up will be instructions. We have been kicking around the idea of a profile fuselage and are considering a few ideas. It would most likely be a separate model all together.

I eventually got my SSX going and flew it Sunday. With the slightly heavier servos the CG is too far back . Will fix that this week and fly it again on Sat more than likely.
One thing for sure though...it's very quick! Had a bit of interest. When I get it right we will see how many want one :-)

Hi Kruzer, sorry I missed you. Let me know next time your in town. What servos are you using? I have been looking at the HS45 from Hitec and am considering making them standard for the Micro SSX Biplane.

Many of you have expressed confusion over how the tail mount goes together. This should clear things up.

Keep in mind that the CG, no matter which length tail, must be kept no more than 1” after the main spar. I have found that I get the best flying 1/2” after the spar. I fly sport not 3D. If you want to hover, move the CG 1” after the spar. The best way to set this plane up for all around flying is to have the battery in a position to move it forward or back starting at the 1/2” aft CG.

Now all you need to add to that picture is a distance dimension showing 3/8" from the back of the mount to the face of the small wood square with the hole in it for the fuselage.
