I think maybe your altitude limiter might need resetting.

Nothing wrong with a poetic moment.

I'm off tomorrow to visit the birthplace of the Hawk... and fly with the Houston Club for the afternoon and Saturday (LSS contest). It'll be only the second time I've been back there since moving away 7 years ago... The Hawks have one of the nicest flying sites I've ever been to. But most of all, they're some of the best guys I've ever flown with... and I'm REALLY looking forward to it! Since I'm now flying with the Soaring League of North Texas... I'm hoping they don't disown me... or worse...

hi there from Toledo

hi Curt

I am going to try to install my Hyperion 302508 outrunner and if necessary a Neumotor or Maxproducts inrunner with planetary gear box. I prefer outrunners but what fits, fits. It is nice to have options.

We shall see and there will be photo documentation. The purist version is my project for the Toledo Show. The epowered version is for my personal enjoyment and maybe even ALES contests.

So the purist version is my first priority. I have wanted to give RDS a try. So i'll make an insert for the elevator bellcrank as well an RDS equipped rudder servo. It should be fairly straight forward.

hi there from Toloedo

So I have started assembling the Hstabs for the purist version. I CAed the CF to the LE sheeting and touched up the ribs and installed the brass tubes in the center ribs.

Meanwhile the laser cut short kit arrived from Mountain Models today, thanks Brian. The quality of ththe HH ribset is just outstanding. Now for some serious assembling!

It is now T minus 60 days and counting to the Toledo Exposition. Sheesh another deadline. Just what I need.

Well, I am always thinking... yes... a dangerous situation... I will be doing different tails on the Wood Hawk to make assembly a little easier. I should be getting my computer monitor in the next couple of days so the drawing can continue. I am stoked abut the new tails. They will be simpler, lighter, stronger... and articulated. This same design philosophy will be used in the next Yardbird and Journey iterations. It's so simple, I'm surprised I've never seen it before... More later...

I'm going to show a little ignorance here... but what is an articulated tail? I've heard of full-flying, stab/elevator.... but not articulated. Any examples of one?

The stab / elevator is articulated at the hinge... Cherokee Bill would be upset with me for using a 2-bit word where a 2-center would do...

Jack, are you tired of full-flying stabs or do you have an aerodynamic motive for the move to bending tails?

hi there from Toledo

So now I have all these laser cut parts with charred edges all over the place. I have used laser cut parts before and have always gently sanded the char off the parts before gluing anything.

So how important is it to do all this prep work? What do you think? Hmmm?
