Hi Captain,

Glad you got it to work. From what you posted, there is a more updated version in the later links. Best to use them.

I have worked out a laser cut sheet for the straight nosed HH wooden fuselage design. It's now in the dwg folder at the link.

I'm on vacation this week and decided it was about time to strip Houston Hawk #2 and put some new covering on it.

Model was built in 2003 as part of a club project by Jack Womack, President of the Houston Hawks RC Soaring Club. Jack built the prototype and gave classes to the club during its construction. Don Cleveland had a Condor Fuse mold, and each of us did our own layup and molded our own fuselages as part of the project. This was a HUGE learning experience.

This was my first balsa build and was my primary ship for several years where it took 3rd place in both the Deep South and Mid South Soaring Championships in 2005.

Going back just the way it was originally built. Flew it today, and it's still sweet. Going to replace those old servos and she's on 2.4 now. Field photos from this morning attached.

Thanks again, Jack, for this timeless design.

The Houston Hawk and Yardbird projects have been very rewarding, mostly in the friendships that I've experienced as a result...

Ok, whip up a set of the slightly drooped fuse plans and lets order some wood! Drooped nose wood fuse, Hawk wings, priceless. Don't worry about the untested issue, we can hash it out as we build ..."Houston Hawk Woodie Skunk Works"

hi there from Toledo

Being that the HH is from Texas, perhaps "HHW Armadillo Works" would be more appropriate, Hmmm?

OK, I'm about to put in my order for a set of fuselage laser cut parts for the version 3 HH fuselage. Before I do, is the tail moment long enough at ~28.25 inches from rear of TE to average hinge line at rudder? Total length 54.75 inches tip of nose to end of rudder. I just want to have that conversation before I commit to the $65 for laser cut parts. I have a 48 inch max wood length from which to cut the sides and I'm using most of it with this dimension. What do you folks think?

Hey, that droop nose fuselage is really good looking. I have a Possum Works fuse and even I'm tempted!

Since I grew up very near Possum Kingdom Lake... I think Possum Works is more appropriate... My wife said Skunk Works fits better, but what does she know, anyway?

Ha!

I have contacted National Balsa in MA for a quote in for cuts for the HH version 3 (not so dropped-nose) fuselage and a set of parts for the related wooden pod for the Yardbird. I'll let you know.

If this becomes a build race...I know I'll lose! Slow and steady is my only gear for building.

Bill,

Is version 3 straight nosed (ew) or slight droop nose (awsome). Ok, no area 51 Skunk Works, I'll bow to "The Creator" and go with Possum Works. I would like to order a fuse set also and be part of the Possum Works exercise. (If it's straight nose...I might have to glue on a slab on the bottom and take the belt sander to it )

I took down the droop nose most recent version for fear that some might think I took the design from the Genie. I honestly didn't know anything of the Genie when I drew it up last week. Rather than post it here, if it is interesting to you, send me an email. I have the plan and the laser cut sheet for it.
