I haven't flown a Libelle. I almost bought one but it wasn't as pristine as the owner said. Being just a touch portly... I didn't fit in one very well, but my PIK's a touch tight, too. I did build a Soarcraft Libelle in the '70s, and wish I could find a kit at a reasonable price, as I'd REALLY like to build another one. I especially like the looks of the lower-profile racing canopy... But then, I always thought the PIK was about as pretty as they come.

At the time I only weighed 160 lbs. but the Libelle was still a real snug fit, which I actually liked. Never saw one with a lower canopy, must have looked good. Got any photos of the PIK? One of the guys in the club had one, but he never brought it out to fly. Concensus was he liked his PIK so much, he was afraid to fly it. You probably posted a photo of your PIK somewhere in these forums, but I can't remember and am to lazy to look for it.

Not really...

Fuselage Done

Still... working on adding the white trim to wings. Was a nice day out so took fuselage outside for some photos. Wish I could have been flying instead. But still recouping from the shoulder operation. Suppose to keep arm in sling for a few more days. Should be able to use arm, in time for HH maiden flight. Am shooting for next weekend. In the meantime here's the fuselage all done, and awaiten (is that a word) the wings.

Wings Mostly Done

Yahoo!!! Got the hard stuff done. The white trim on wing is finally all on. Added about 1/4" of white around entire wing perimeter. The hard part, here, is getting all the separate pieces to line up, making it look like it was all done with one piece of trim. Top and bottom trim pieces are one piece folded over. Getting no wrinkles was a bit of work, but not really that hard, just need to go slow. Added some small curves to blend white tips with trim. Have not cut in spoiler openings yet. Have, half a mind to fly it once or twice without the spoilers, but got a feeling I might run out of landing room. Trying to decide whether to make the spoilers white or trans. blue. Am leaning towards the blue, looks wise, but have found the transparent colors aren't as good as the opaque colors for making smooth working hinges. A well..... life is rough......decisions, decisions.

My compliments on the covering, trim job and the build! Really NICE looking ship. Can't wait to see her when you've finished her.

Thanks Phoebusflyer. Took some more photos of wings, after finishing second wing.
