It was MDF and I have sprayed it with two coats of sealer (varnish)
Just curious--is the thickness of the sealer significant?

Looks like you have enough material there to carpet your house with carbon.

Thanks a bunch for doing this build thread Joe, I know it can add a lot of time to the build but we do appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience.

Is the entire thing routed out of MDF? If not, did you sit the half-foil onto the MDF and seal it up shiny? Am i way off?

I like the shine.

The half profile was routed into a sheet. I cleaned it up and got it ready to mold. This is the only part of the plane that I can use one plug for both halves because it is fully symetrical. For the wing, fuse, and upper vertical stab I will have two plugs to prep for each part.

The varnish and polish is nice but in the end your only as good as the foundation. Obviously the CNC plug gives a nearly perfect foundation. Its definately the way to go if you have access to these tools.

Joe, very cool. What varnish are you sealing the MDF with? Better yet, what do you do to seal the MDF to that purdy shiny plug stage?
