Build Log
Mini Boeing 314 Clipper

I Have a build of this plane posted in waterplanes but thought i would post it here also ..(More Traffic Here)

A local Flying Buddy (Wombat) gave me a hot wire cutter (Thanks Wombat)

I have been cutting bluecor in half thinckness wise .. 3mm Bluecor is a dream to work with in the smaller scales

I had been thinking about what to design and build next for my summer float plane flying and i had first thought about the Consolidated Coronado .. or many other giant flying boats.. I finally decided the 314s lines and over all exaggerated lines would be a good place to start

I have a few other projects going so i havent been able to devote as much time to her as i would like

Here are the specs .. Wingspan 32 inches .. Wing undercambered ..
Power 4 GWS EDP-50 brushed motors .. 3x2 props
Battery will probably be a 700 mah 2 cell poly (Only battery i have that small)

Here are a few pics of progress already made ..

Believe it or not really wont need it .. the foam has such a high bouyancy(sp)
the water will barely come up to the hull line .. But.. i will run a little Probond along the seams to provide waterproofing but more importantly Strength along the joints .. plus im going to cover her with Ultracote silver ..

Recent Graduate?

Good to see you back in the DIY section Mr. Brady. Plane is looking good. But having recently graduated from High School, I think I can blow you away with my BE-200 Edf waterplane.... So there it is... the Gauntlet has been thrown down, the gloves are off....it's a battle to the ....... water.

And of course the way you sling fan blades i have no worries about getting into the water first .. i think you should go with 5-6 cells on that EDF 64 ..

New progress and Pics ..

I was going to cover this one before flying her but i figured it was a waste of time seeing as how as soon as i fly this one i am going to start on the revised version ..

Wing halves are together and Dihedral is in .. Nacelle tops are glued in .. bottoms will be done as soon as i get motors set up ..

I would make two small formers out of ply and use a blind nut and a nylon bolt. If you cut thin plywood into 1/2" strips you can glue them top bottom sides and across top place wing and drill through all layers at once and assure the wing lines up properly also would fiberglass center of wing so that bolt wont pull thru

Mike

Great looking plane
good luck on maiden

good suggestion Mike .. im thinking maybe 2 skewers sticking out from infront of the wing going into 2 coffee stirrers glued into a foam block into the fuselage .. then a 3mm screw on the back going into a piece of foam or lite ply at rear of wing in the fuse ..

I would use ply (stronger) unless you wrap the foam in fg and pollyglue for stength an alturnitive would be nylon darn near as strong and a bit lighter

My mom used to hate when I got Into her Nylon drawer to use them on my Planes Three nylons pulled over a fuse made them fairly strong and did not add as much weight as fg
of course now I am 50m years old and my wife has the same problem still a kid at heart. wish the bod would keep up.
