Started on the wings, still rough.
100g on second pic, still to add spar caps, joining v-shaped plywood piece, little sheeting in center of the wing, throwing peg and reinforcements, covering. Ailerons gonna get also lighter, not decided yet, what kind of holes to make in them.

I was wondering is anyone building there wing and useing the solid tip design? It seems all the people that have posted builds have done a hollow tip like Rendy. If you have can you please give me a over all weight of your wing Please. :-) and thankyou in advance

Hi Zack,

I think you can make a solid wing tip very easily. Just use light balsa. When I build my wing tips, I was hopping I can build a light wing tip to reduce overall weight and Izz. Looking back on what I did.... I don't think I have reduced the weight that much. The real trick is to transfer the load from the throwing peg to the main spar. I hope this helps.

Here's some progress. The weight is 250grams. Elevator and rudder servos in,rx and battery in. Lightening holes to ailerons, cover the wing, and install wing servos, and that's it. I hope to stay under 320grams. My tailboom is also cut too short(10cm shorter distance between wing TE and h-stab LE, original is 45cm, mine is 35cm), but now i dont have to add nose weight to compensate longer tail.

Edit: FINISHED!
Auw- 320grams, CG at 1cm behind the spar.
Wing weighs 150grams with two servos. Can't wait to give her the first toss.

She flew great! Yet again i maidened my Manta in high winds. 20mph this time to be exact. Definately launches higher with a proper tailboom. Flies better with the full size wing; turns on a dime. Im very happy, cant wait for the winds to set down a bit..

Congraduation on your maiden. It's a nice target weight at 320 g.

Find a nice calm day and try pushing the CG as far back as you could handle. In this way, you could get rid of some nose weight and she will detect thermal better .

Have fun,
Geode

Composite Manta

Just thought it might be a "safe" ideal to try out a composite version of "thin" airfoil, "narrow" chord Manta before go on to the balsa build up version.

Triple taper planform, foam tail feathers and Rendy's Carbon/Kevlar pod ....

Hi,
Does anyone have a good way for strengthening the wingtip for the launch blade on the Manta? I was just going to put some CF tow around the peg to the spar.
Thanks,
Ray
