Ritewing Zephyr II Build Log

Over the last month I have documented my entire ZII build with my gopro and some crude editing software.

My goal is to share step by step all of the tips I have gathered from friends and the experts. It has been a steep learning curve to get this far!

Specifically I want to thank: Team Green Gorilla for everyday debates, discussions, and experience! CK @ ritewing for elite expertise, directions, and quick 24/7 answers to questions, the FPVlab community for endless information and support, and people like Sassen, Trappy, Rockyflyr, Brosius, Alex G, and more in the FPV community who continue to inspire, entertain, and push limits.

I humbly hope to continue advancing because the FPV game is an easy one to quit!

Also this ritewing thread needs to be back up top right?

Thanks,
Jason (aka SespeNomad)

Formation flying is addicting. Now its almost boring without having another plane in frame. Takes practice though huh. I've been flying my grim reaper with a 1.3 video link, but now my ZII is on 2.4 like my buddy. Any experience flying with multiple planes on the 2.4 spectrum? We both have all 8 lawmate channels so we are gonna play with it when my new motor bell comes in.

28oz (tl50 so far)

3oz (control surface)
35oz (batteries)

It's fully glassed, but that seems HEAVY compared to previous TL50 builds I've read about. Is it because I glassed it?

Should I have any concerns about hand launching or fly-ability?

I am just putting the finishing touches on my new TL50 and am going to be around 46 ounces + whatever it takes to set the CG. Its sitting at 8 3/4 right now with no lead. My power system is considerably less powerful than yours is. I am running a Mega 16/15/4 on 4s with a 6X4.

still gotta work out a few kinks, vibrations mainly. I got 30+ minutes of fpv logged on it now. Super stoked. Check it out in 1080.

Shameless sale post...

Hey guys want to give a heads up that I have a couple Mega 16/45 motors for sale.

16/45/2C, and 16/45/2EC

Either would be an ideal motor for a Demon 40 on 8S at around 35K RPM and 6.5" props. 2EC will have a little more headroom for longer duration WOT flying, or a bit larger prop.

Take the fastest ARC-motored Demons you've seen, and add 50% more power and 30-40mph...

Anyone know the cg for an IYF29. I am just going by memory I don't remember the ws.

Adam built it for me years ago and I've never flown it.

Good stuff question

Guys I'm doing a pair of sloper TL-50's. I'm painting foam first then applying the film. Should I hit the surface of the foam with a little 377 first? Or should I skip the 377?

Zagi boys are in for it..

Demon Lawn Dart!!

Shot my Demon off the catapult today and a loose receiver battery connection revealed itself in the form of a slow, looping, unpowered stall. Tried my darndest to fly it out and glide the deadstick landing... but those work better when you have elevon control.

Never seen a plane actually lawn dart before. REALLY never seen a flying wing with no nose do a lawn dart.

Here's the crazy thing...
NO. DAMAGE.
None, whatsoever! Pulled it out of the ground, looked it over, plugged back up and shot it to do 180mph.

Ritewing Demon Lawn Dart. UNDAMAGED!! (0 min 43 sec)
