Adam,

I've got a 9% Sportster in the works.... I am planning to add flat carbon to stiffen up the wing tips and was wondering how you and CK arrange them. Anyone got pics???

Thanks,

For my sportster 9% I am going with a lite setup using a Microdan outrunner so I am using no additional sparring other then the main spar.

Here is how I dide the slice. It really made a stiff wing but I think if you move them outboard more woulmake it much better.

I used carbon strip, 1mmx3mm stuff. Just made a slice with a razor and slid them in.

The first pic is where I place them the seconed is where I think they could be better placed.

Keep an eye on your leading edge! These thin wings get away from you really fast if your not paying attention.

Adam

Tl 60

This one is going to the big island inthe pacific.
I changed things up a bit ,it has 7 spars and has a ballast bay that will hold up to 48 oz of ballast.
I will give you some close ups once it is done.

Slice

I have one being covered rite now, its a bit different then the other builds. Pay close attention to the leading edge and trailing edge to avoid warps, use flat carbon for the spars. You can fit just about any gear you could fit in the TL/Demon 40. The one I built has standard servos(exposed rods) and will easily fit a 20mm thick pack.

Keep the motor back farther on this one as the chord is smaller, this will give you room for electronics and batts.

Don't go for crazy speeds on this one! I don't think it'll handle 140mph speeds. Keep it tame like a Het3 on 3s all the way down to a 20mm motor.

No positives on the CG, yet I assume it'll be in the 7-7.5 range from discussions with Chris. Definitely gotta do some glide test before launching.

Glass is a bit different as well the shorter chord changes things up a bit. Its hard to explain but you'll see when you get to that point, really made me think how to lay it out. Normally you start parralell trailing edge, this time I started one piece horizontal to the wingtips, from tip to tip. But do as you see fit.

I know I keep saying tomorrow but I "should" be getting the slice build pics tonight!

Mine does awesome. The TL has quite a kick from the Medusa that was on it.

Cool, and thanks! I'm going with an ARC 110, so it's a pretty lite build too. I'll consider stiffening the tips but may not worry it. High speed isn't the name of the game with this particular build...

I'll letch know how it goes when I get "rolling."

Slicin it!!!

So I am doing a custom built Slice for a fellow member here, Don't worry Chris is ok with it.

The guy wants to fit a 3300 Polyrc pack so the bay is as deep as possible. He'll be running a 3t on 3s and a 5.5x4.5 or 5x5.

Standard size futaba digitals.

I ran the clear golden rod tube through the wing for easy instalation/removal of the antenna.

The plane is completly finished just needs to be shipped out. I'll let him post the finished pics.
