Me too! Underwater video cool!

Got my 28/40/2500kv rocket motor from CK mounted in my Speedwing DartXL. Will run it on 3s and 4s. Before this I had the Mega 16/15/3 in it on 3s using a 6x4 sport prop. 24500rpm's. It was over 100mph.

In the photo here I have two 45C Hyperion 2s 2600mAh in series for 4s
any prop suggestions other than the 6x4 sport? AUW is 2.5lbs.

D.B.,

Depends of what you want to do.

Your KV X Voltage is higher than before besides the motor being equivalent to a 16/20/X.

If you want similar Watts or speed, you should consider dropping down to 6X3 sport (its a heavy duty prop like Pylon)...for static and inflght tests.

If you want more speed start with same 6X4 sport.

That is a good motor. Historically I have recommended it numerous times.
I always felt sad for people buying the Eflight six series when they could have bought that motor.

Pylon 2.9" and 3.7" pitch props might make your verticals and acceleration more interesting...maybe more fun overall.

Have fun,

Gryphon

Thanks for the info ! I want to haul some A$$

I'll get some ordered tonight. I think I've got most of my 6x4 sport props from Tower. I also need a few 4mm prop adapters, the one's that don't require reaming out the hole. Is it the E-flight adapters?

Demon 50" maiden!

So my brand new Demon 50" took to the skies today. Been a long time on the building board, and I really freaked myself out preparing it for flight. But once I stepped up to the catapult and shot it airborne, everything just felt RITE.
It handles just like my D40. Just a little bit more beefy feeling in the air. But still nimble on the sticks and carves a turn like a champ.
Only hitch in the flight was a corner of the lam film popping up and buzzing at high speed. Never like buzzing planes, but good to find the cause is something minor.

First flight was on 8S 4000mah on the Rokett 3670-880kv motor, and an 8x6 Sport prop. It even had good speed on this "light" setup for the maiden.

I ran 8x7 and 8x8 prop after, and got up to 153mph level no-wind speed on 2500 watts. Not quite the efficiency we'd get on a 40, but this thing can take SOOO much more power!
My Ice 160HV Lite ESC is coming in this week, so that will allow me to run the 10-12S that should really make this thing scoot
I'll run a few more props on 8S. I'll even try a couple of the 8.75" Q500 pylon props to get a baseline that will help determine how prop diameter relates to speed on this new plane. Then the props will shrink and the revs will rise until I'm on 7" props at over 32K
Then we'll see how fast this thing can really move.

The plane is very dialed in already. I did some dive testing and it just barely begins to climb out of a power-off dive, so that tells me CG at 22% MAC (10.1") is rite on.
It needs a couple clicks of Up trim between cruising and full bore, so I'll tweak the motor mount up a little to tune the thrust angle. I tried to do the inverted 45 degree climb, but the maneuver is foreign to me and took a couple tries to not get wonky. Once I did get the maneuver flown, I forgot what I saw looking for in the tuning
Elevon differential to dial the roll axis will come next flights.

I can't WAIT to get this thing scooting around in cooler temperatures when I can run big power.

great work murdo! glad to hear that familiar noise. great success on the maiden too. good show. cant wait for the moster powertrain to fire up

did you stick with "excalibur" ? ... you know that could lead to it being wedged so hard into a boulder no-one can pull it out exept the king right?

here is the vid of my zeph getting wet while im here.

not "swimming" but wet nonetheless.

skip to 3:40 if you just want the touchdown.

plane goes splash (4 min 28 sec)

Congratulations Murdo!

Can't wait for some cooler weather for you (which also conversely means some warmer finer flying weather for us!)

Like your colour scheme too!

Ambrose, another great video, well worth the cost of a replacement receiver!

Inspired me to view your earlier Hat Head video again.

Murdo,

Congratulations on your maiden flight.

After you got on the throttle the manly power could be heard.

I'm sure your climbing rate was really nice with that 8" prop.

Any comments on the unloading as full speed was reached?
(in relationship to either static or going to full throttle at low flight speed).

-----------

brosius85,

Sorry about your mishap. I'm glad there was no additional damage.

Carry a can of dielectric spray....just incase.

OK, my curiosity has overcome my desire to look informed.

What's a Fatty Demon??

The long chord ones?
