MD in a 36 inch Demon

I finnaly got things worked out on the demon 36 i have the motor below in it and it is a sweet flting wing with this motor

Im running 2 2s 3300 20c packs in a 4s config I have a custom T mount that i built for the komodo motor

I used the Micro Dan EDF 8mm mount to go from the Tmount to the MD motor

and an apc 5.5 x 4.5 prop

Im guessing im in the high 90's with it.. maybe over 100 I will not be able to speed test it untill AEF i do not want to fly (crash) the wings im taking so i have a few to take

I will post some pics and some hard amp specks

Custom Motor
http://www.gobrushless.com/shop/ind...f=MD2505-C-2535

The MicroDAN 2505 "Custom Series" are custom wound to suit certain requirements. This motor is a slightly lower Kv then the standard SPEED motor.
This motor is a 2535Kv version built for the APC 5x5 & 6x5.5 prop running on 4s Lipo.

18 Turns, 23AWG, DLRK, Delta, 14 magnet poles

Performance Data:
No Load 25350 RPM, 10V, 1.67A,
APC 6x5.5, 19800 RPM, 12.21V, 39A, 32oz thrust.
APC 5x5, 24400 RPM, 13V, 28A, 19oz thrust.

Whats the AUW of the bird and how did you find the vertical performance to be?

AUW is 36.1 OZ and it is near vertical.. from flat if i just fly flat and level and turn the nose up it will climb at about a 80% climb till it is to small to see..

Inverted is flat and level so i guess i dont need to add any weight.. it took a tweek on the mount with a bit of down thrust then 2 clicks left and flew hands off

Thanks Adam!

Not sure if many people have thanked Adam for the time he has spent on documenting the Ritewing build process and trying to keep a fairly cetnralized thread. I wanted to say thanks. I know you have spent quite a bit of time documenting your own builds and I especially have found it very helpful!

I've been working on my Mini Demon over the last few weeks and reference this thread as I go. Thanks a bunch! Thanks to all the others that have documented your builds as well! Hopefully I'll be glassing one night soon.

Also, thanks to CK for making such outstanding products! Keep up the good work.

I noticed I did not mention heat.. It is cold as heck today but it still came down as cold as it went up so it is getting plenty of air flow.

Great news Paul! Finances have been holding me back from experimenting with the MD myself. After much discussion with Methos I was confident that the MD would be a winner! That custom wind will be a winner on the bigger stuff.

Ya the speed wind maybe on 3s and a light build the custom on a 40 or smaller 4s ship

Static tests i took just now

MD 2505 2535kv
static specs
12.83 vdc
35.6 amps
456 watts
23612 rpm
This was not on freash packs but rather after i had been out flying for 10 minutes.. so starting specs static would only be better..

Well on my 36" Sportster I've been running the MicroDan 2505 speed wind motor on an APC 5x5 prop on 4s for about 6 to 8 flights now and it's working awesome.

It's pulling 650 - 660 watts at 44 - 46amps I don't know exactly how to calculate the pitch speed, but I believe that it is in the 150mph range.

It's definitely pushing the Sportster past 120mph possibly as high as 130, but I'm not sure... I have no way to truly test it.

The vertical is unlimited... as in 90mph straight up

rpm x pitch (in inches) x 0.000947

in my case bench test on a almost dead pack

23610 x 4.5 x .000947 = 100.61

this is all static and drag and wind and every thing makes a diff. but i should be doing about 115 on the fully charged pack (estimate of rpm) and down to 100 on the used pack.

Using this we can say how fast we want to go what pitch prop we want to use and it will tell us the static rpm we need to get there in a perfect world.

Again so many variables play on this that your mileage will vary

(Mph / Pitch) / .000947

Pitch 5
MPH = 125
RPM = 26400

Pitch 4.5
MPH 125
RPM 29333

The diamiter of the prop only really plays in thrust as does the pitch and or the ability of a motor ot spin a prop at a particular RPM.

the speedster is a thinner foil so less drag.. and I think your KV is higher so the 29.5k rpm is possible so you might be right..

have a look here to play with the numbers

http://www.rcpro.org/rccalc/PitchSpeed.aspx

I still think with drag and my bumpy flying in something less than pitch speed..

40" Demon bulid

Just about finished with my Demon Very happy with how it is coming out, not sure if I like the coloring scheme but I know I will be able to see it. Can't wait to fly it, It's my first A123 powered airplane so it will be a learning experience. Here are a couple of pics of the top. Tried to do something different.

OH MY GOD!!! Just ran static test with whatt Meter. 17v, 43A, well over 600W Hope this Medusa can handle the power. Setup is
Medusa 28-40-2200
5.5x4.5 Apc prop
60 Lightflight ESC
Medusa 6v, 3a BEC
JR 6ul rx
5s A123 2300mah bat pack

First test, I had 6x4 sport prop and amps went up over 50 , changed to 5.5x4.5 and results were more reasonable. This sucker is gonna rock. Rite on...
