that sounds like a sweet setup. Maybe not the fastest but sounds like a blast with the unlimited vert!

To many projects going on or maybe just to little time but the more I read of your setup the sooner I want to start my 36 sportster!

Hehe I love my sportster, she's a hyper responsive crazy little thing, that holds it's speed like nothing I have ever seen.
Be careful though, she will bite you in a heartbeat if you relax even for a sec... but that's what makes it sooo much fun imo.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be testing out my new batts from CK. I got a pair of 25c 2500mAh PolyRC packs, I have to put the connector on them and charge them up today. I will be testing the MD 2505 on an APC 5x5 prop, I'm hoping for around 45 - 48 amps and around the 650 watt range

Well the first static test is done, numbers are;

657watts 45amps. My pitch speed is going to be around 150 - 160mph I think... all I need now is a nice day

I did find and solve one strange problem with my power system. I am using an E-Flite 60 amp pro Switch mode ESC which has many programming features, some of which I was unfamiliar with, for example, PWM frequency and Throttle range (PWM) both of these settings caused me trouble. Through trial and error, I have found the correct settings using this ESC and a MicroDan 2505 speed motor. Here are my settings:

1. Voltage cutoff - 4-cell

2. Brake type - Medium brake

3. Timing - High timing (12 pole)

4. Throttle range - 1.2 - 1.8ms

5. Start-up rate - .25sec

6. PWM switching frequency - 32khz (THIS WAS THE CRUCIAL ONE!) the motor would not reach full throttle at 8 or 16khz, it would cut out at 3/4 throttle until I chose 32khz then it worked normally.

7.Operating mode - (Not sure about this one) I think I chose 8kHz which was the default.

By the way I static tested this inside my house... I am clinically deaf now... just a warning

The FS is slowly getting closer to it's maiden. The covering job (my first) is not all that great, but I'm sure it'll get better with time. The airframe is 19oz now, so I'm not sure if it'll make the sub 30oz RTF weight that I hoped for.

I am new to these ritewing things, but am in the process of doing all my research so that after xmas I can order me a setup of 3 wings from CK. I have been in contact with him but have some technical questions for all the RITE addicts here before I start spending my cash... incase I get it wrong and waste my money I really need to know a few things first !!

So I have lots of things to ask but ill just ask a few at a time ....,

first one is :

what is the maximum thickness I can buy for the LIPO's If I am intent on getting a 40 Demon, a 50 TL and a 60 TL ?? I have read alot of this thread and have found a few references to 22mm, or around there if I remember right? Can I go thicker?? IS the airfoil about the same for these 3 wings??

The 40 and 50 can fit a 20mm thick pack snugly and anything over that gets very tight and takes some modifying to fit.


The 60 is phat! It can handle alot more. dont have an exact number but It should fit 30mm with ease.

How settings are used in CC60 to go with 4S2P 2100 and a Mega 16 15 4 on a TL50?

The factory setting work just fine. I ussually just change the brake setting to hard with a slow ramp.

I've attached my current build status. I have bulge on the top of the coro from my packs (2x 32x32x111) The front pack is squeezed between the cf spars and coro causing some ugly bulge.
What should I do?

Also, is the pushrod to close to the edge? I kept shaving the prop bay more and more until it was to late.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

You could try placing coro on the bottom as well so that it bulges on top and bottom and that might make it look better? If you have already done that then never mind me I couldn't tell from the photo. If you make the bottom coro a bit larger than the top that might spread the bulge out a bit more as well thereby reducing the severity of it...

I would cut the whole batter bay out just outside of its edges .Make it wider then use coro for the bottom and top so it overlap over the servos slightly.
Then add extra glass on the top and bottom then give it a coat of pu without water on the bottom for extra strength.
Sand it slightly when dry then coat with 90 only over th pued area.Let dry then mono coat it.
