I saw a idea for a jet powered heli a few years back where the jet exhaust was routed out the rotor blades and thats what powered the rotor, Did they ever build that thing? It was in PM I think I saw it. Nice thing was you never had to worry about Ice on the rotors

Hovering a jet, hmm...
DocWatson is working on his X-34 project, that certainly counts, but I know what you're thinking, off the tail pipe! Well, there are some of the fans that generate just enough thrust for that kind of feat, I forgot the names of them, but I remember they were quite impressive. Both handbuilt and I believe were over 20 cells and used Plettenburg motors. The solution to the problem is either thrust vectoring in combination with intake "vectoring"(?), or just use the type of control systems this used: ![]() That would make quite an event, now wouldn't it? A slave fan could be used to direct the air out tubes in the wing, tail, nose, etc. Or use CO2 or some other non-replenishable method of control. Sure wouldn't want to lose pressure and have zero control off the tail pipe! Last edited by e-sailpilot86; Oct 25, 2002 at 11:43 PM. |

Tim, the F9-F will hover (almost: 5.75 lbs AUW with 5.5 lb thrust). I want to see your E3D do 130 mph at 12" above the runway!!!

You hover real low at the end of the runway, and I'll fly under you at full speed!!

Hmmmmm....... I wonder if balsa bits and Monokote scraps will damage the Schubeler? I sure wouldn't want to damage that fan. Maybe I should shut it off just before I go through....er....UNDER your new 3D thingy.
