Mayday, I think you need a little dihedral in those wings. Of course they may flex upwards during flight, at the moment they look to have a slight amount of anhedral which is bad for a rudder/elevator model.

The Dihedral will improve stability no end.

Mayday, you're right, the BB likes it slow. That's what it was made for! Are you getting good rudder response on your plane? I share Del's concern regarding dihedral. The Blu-Baby requires it to turn properly and to be the super stable learning machine a newbie needs. Are you planning on putting the dihedral in with the wing struts?

MayDay,

On my first BB, I ended up adding a little nose weight also. On #2, I made sure that the servos, esc and rx were as far forward as I could push them. #2 is rock solid w/o any additional nose weight.

Love the EPP. Nice job on the wing. Dittos on the dihedral.

Love the built-up wing - makes me wonder if I could build a wing with a flat bottom and ribs from 6mm FFF, CF spar, then Monokote the whole thing, so the ribs show through like a traditional built-up balsa wing. Would be a great method to build WWI planes to look more scale. Has anyone tried this?

Well my Blu-Baby has red wings now. Krylon H20 works great.

Yeah the struts will add about 3/4 in dihedral on each side, and also help keep the wing from flexing up too much.
However, when we first flew this it was very windy and we crashed it maybe a dozen times. The wind even cartwheeled it over maybe 6-8 flips.
No damage at all.
After the wind calmed we flew it again and I can tell you the rudder and elevator are more than responsive. We are going to tame the throws down a bit.
The guy that we are giving this to is not a beginner, he's flown for many years. However, there will be a learning curve for him to get used to the new modified radio.

I liked the way the wing turned out too. Looks like if it was covered, it would look like a balsa wing.
Warhead- it should be easy to do. Make the ribs and slowly wrap the sheeting around.
I was planning on doing that for this wing, but I wanted that extra 9mm piece to help with damage control.
We pounded this plane in a couple of times, and it looks the same now as it does in those pics. The epp has the advantage over the FFF. Fanfold will tear off in big pieces or crush in, where the epp will hold it's shape after a crash and will tear but a little hot glue and your golden.
Thanks for the input and comments guys.
Now I have to work on my own Blu-Baby. Maybe 60in with floats. Yeah that would be nice.

I don't mean to ask a really stupid question
but since the wing is called a 4-40 I'm assuming that the
CG is 40 percent back from the leading edge???
Am I guessing right?
thanks

Ray, the airfoil is called a 4-40 because it has 4% camber at 40% of the chord. CG is at 33% or 2.6 inches from the leading edge.

Mayday, a 60" with floats.. YES, I wanna see that!

Don't sweat it Ray. All the terminology can be confusing until you've been doing it a while. But you've come to the right forum to learn this stuff. There are lot's of very knowledgable folks in the Foamies forum that are only too glad to help out.

I stuck a piece of skewer through the monobloc and wrapped an elastic band. Looking forward to your postings.

Bob that looks great, BluBaby got a smaller twin brother.

Do not see why it should not fly, let us know how it goes.
