Ready for a Mission

BB Birddog II is ready for action... Used original gear, wing, and internal structure except for monobloc. Made a new tail section using Tony's L19 rudder and redrew a curved elev and stab. Also left the paper bacling on the foamboard for the tail section. Result is a lot stronger than plain stripped foamboard so I didn't use skewers for reinforcement as I did on my original. Weight is the same as before at 11 oz. Replaced the receiver with one with the full length ugly-assed wire. I hate long dragging visible antenna wire and rubber bands. Will fly tomorrow wind-gods willing. Here's some pics. Bob

Gawd, that looks good Bob! The L19 fin and rudder look really natural on the BB. Good luck with the maiden. I'm in awe.

Madfisherman, thanks for weighing in with the J250 info. It's appreciated.

Hey Tony

Yes I was talking about a SPORTWING for the smaller version.
I wasn't going to really come out and ask, just planned on reducing the
plans for the big one to fit the smaller one.
But if its not a bother, a PDF of a sportwing for the smaller BB would be great.
Thanks for the info on the j250 and sp280.
This is great.

Ray, here you go. Here is a sport wing for the BB 33" although the wing is actually 32" (no tips). Just cut out the wing saddle flat along the marks on the BB Plans. Add an aileron servo in the centre joint. I would also glue a couple of 11" bamboo skewers inside the KFm strip for strength and away you go.

That should work. Of course, you need two servos for flaperons. Good luck!

Hey Tony
Thanks a million.
I was just noticing that all the pictures of completed planes in this thread are using a single sheet of foam for the wings. So I take it that the KFm wing design is just for the sportwing version?
I appreciate the plans. Thanks Ray

Oh I forgot to ask, where is the CG on the sportwing version?

Yes Ray, that is correct. The KFm wing is just for the sport version. That said, you could put a LITTLE dihedral in it and then it would float and roll too.

Remember, the BB is a primary trainer, not a pattern ship. If you want aerobatic, wait'll you see my next bird (BUWAHAHA)

The CG starting point is the same for both wings however, the KFm can tolerate a more aft CG and it will improve it's flight characteristics as well as it's aerobatic capability.

OH NO!!!!
Next bird???
I haven't even finished this one yet!!!!!!!!!aaarrrrrggggggg
So much foam,
so little time!!:

P.S. So really the sportwing is just a reinforced flatplate like most of the indoor 3D planes going around today??
Are you still using PU glue on all your planes, and are you against using
hot glue?
Also, if I'm using a J250dd can I omit the slot for the motor stick in my block?
And nobody yet has posted any pictures on where there batt, servos, or rec are placed inside their plane.
Can you post some pics on that?
Thanks Ray

No, the KFm is considerably more than "Just a reinforced flat plate". It has been the product of a huge amount of work. When built to the plan, you will be rewarded with a very good flying wing.

I use PU glue when I need structural integrity (like the LG slot), hot glue for most else. You can omit the motor mount slot. From the diagram you posted, bottom bay is for the battery, top bay holds the servos and receiver. Just lay 'em out as you like, there's lots of room and the placement is not too critical as long as it's relatively forward.

I'm happy ! I just put my suitcase Blu-Baby on the CG machine and its Spot On at 2.60 " & 11.78 oz.

Ken

Thats with 2 piece wing, removeable gear and elevator. 24 gram Hex 1300 & 800 Mah 20 C 3s. I might get crazy and spray some Krylon H20 on it.

Sorry If I upset you by calling the KFm "a flat plate"
I was only going by the plans as I have yet to see one built.
I was unaware that it had been tested and used to such a high degree.
Please forgive me

Nubee... Are you going to post some pics? I'd love to see your BB and especially how you ended up with the wing attachment viewed from the bottom. Thanks... Bob
