Hello guys

I was able to buy a Art Tech Mustang, RTF, new, including a spare wing, normal motor NiMh battery for 70EUR! Not bad I think...
Now I have some questions:
1. Has anybody so far upgraded the paint/markings on this bird to something authentic? Pictures would be great
2. Has anybody worked on the styro surface to make it look better, maybe covering glass or japan paper
3. The canopy to me looks a bit too high in comparison to an original Mustang. Would a PZ one fit or maybe one from Ultra Flight? Any suggestions?

thanks
Uwe

PS: Just saw that upgrading to BL is not too expensive so maybe...?

The Canopy is one of the things that they got right. What color do you want to make it? Green and gray or Blue and silver. Most P-51Ds were all silver.

Hello again

Thanks for the replies...I was not really after paint suggestions but after some pics of an already re-painted Art Tech bird...to help me judge on the general shape, especially of the canopy area. The clown like appearance out of the box does to make it easy to get a clear picture.
On the canopy style, there were actually two different ones used in WWII, one regular one and one referred to as the "Dallas" style, which I think was a bit lower in profile than the normal one.

here are some nice ones...originals... I found on airliners.net

cheers
Uwe

Returning Flyer with New Bird still in the box...

Hi to all, I'm new on here. Been reading this thread for two weeks in evenings. I've read the entire thread (101) pages now so learned alot!

I have a brand new AT P-51D still in the shipping box, haven't even taken it out to see the colorful box inside. This is what a mini ice-age does to you up here in frigid Ohio, especially this year. Folks it's been like January since
October! Lots of little snows and one bad ice morning already driving to work.

I jumped on this from HL first hour when they had their big sale after Turkey Day. $70 off regular price and got an extra battery for $15 off too!

I am like another one on here, I haven't flown RC since 1980 in Fla. when
my old mini Ugly Stick finally wore out. Had a K&B 35 on it, Aileron and Elevator only! Wide Open and no Rudder, ROG takeoff and landing, Trike gear. Actually worked quite well! Used to fly a Hobie Hawk Glider slope soaring and before that Gas Control Line as a teenager. I am 53 now. Long time no fly.

Merlin, I saw all your Free Non-Commissioned Advertising for BP Products. I will probably get a BP ESC before flying this thing, unless I get a weather break and get to anxious. Since the AT P51D is a 4 CH setup, I noticed on the BP link page that you need a 4.8V Receiver or a BEC Switch installed too with the Lipo that comes with the plane?

Please let me know exactly which BP components you are running, Links and Details please. Thanks!!!

To the others, I enjoyed all your videos and pics and the experimentation with the different props and seeing the results in the videos. I had one Electric Glider in 92 and it was a dog and crashed too many times, never really flew, too heavy for motor, body too heavy ABS and poly. Disappointing. Recently saw the Electric Warbirds at our local Airshow flown by club members of a club I was a founding member of in the early 70's. The Corsair, 51, and some others were beautiful in the air and that got my attention. Started checking all the newer technology out and jumped onboard again. I really wanted the AT F4U but this P-51D sale was too good to pass up and it was 2nd on my list.

I hope we get a break from the nasty weather every once and awhile and maybe I can get this bird out for some trials!

Thanks to everyone on here for all the valuable information! It's interesting and fun to read.

The circus Paint job was really done sometimes. The USAAF Pilots were allowed to do just about anything. The USN/USMC Pilots were lucky they could put a name on the plane!

Free BP ad

I wish i got free stuff for this.
I use the BP30A ESC in all my planes with 4 servos. No BEC or RX battery!
I have never had a problem with my Corsair,Hellcat,P-51,Fw190. I even use two in my P-38 and Mosquito. All on 3S.
I guess i'm never using all 4 servos at the same time or for very long!
I also never ever hit LVC.
MERLIN
BTW I have a Corsair with 6 servos and I do use a CC 10A BEC.
More than 4 and BEC is a must!

Guess I'm breaking international RC law...because in my GWS FW-190 I have 5 9 gram servos (retracts) and I only use an Epyaya 33amp ESC. My motor is a Turnigy 35-36C...yeah...I walk on the wild side! I actually have been meaning to get a better setup. I will someday...hopefully before the ESC fries. IN the ESCs defense though...it is sitting right on the firewall and with the FWs BIG OPEN cowling...it gets MAXIMUM airflow. It really helps to get rid of the heat that burns them up.

You live in CA so you can get away with it with the EPYAYA.
I'm sure the BP30A ESC could do 5 but I'm not going to tell people what I think
only what I'm sure works.

BTW
Interpol has been notified.
