Build Log
Depron Puddle Twin

Hello Guys!

Spring is here and my waterplane flying site, the "Swooping Pond" at Skydive PINK Klatovy (shameless plug ) just got enlarged! So Time to get started on a flying boat project i have eyed for some time now:

The Puddle TWIN

The Design is by Roland Merk from germany, Wingspan is about 80cm, All up weight (predicted about 250g or 8oz). i'll power it with 2 geared brushed motors very similar to GWS IPS-A drives i got here localy in the Czech Republic. The whole airplane is built from 3mm Depron and features a folded Wing (as in not only a flat plate but a full wing with ribs)

The plans can be fround here: Puddle Twin Plan it`s a free download.

I have so far printed the plans and cut paper templates for all the smaller parts.

Pics and progress to follow

Cheers
MB

Theres a complete drawing that goes onto A1 Paper format and also a tiled version that goes onto A4 Paper format.. so drawings are 1:1 but you might have problems with the paper format when printing

As a bit of a build update i`ve completed cutting the Bits and pieces excluding the wing skin, so i`ll start building the fuselage tonight (maybe that depends on the amount of beer that comes with dinner )

Pics follow later tonight

Cheers

Nice! Curious what type of glue you are using. And am anxious to see the motor mounting scheme you will use. Looks very good. Will you have a balsa rib where the wingtip floats attach or do you think the depron will hold. Great work! Now get some sleep!
Just got in from some float flying on my lake in some wicked fog.

i use a combination of styro safe CA and contact glue... i try to use the CA only where i need to tack something down quick as it gets brittle and the contact glue (UHU Por for example) stays alwas a bit more flexible.

I Have Made the Ribs from 6mm Depron and thought about making a depron block with a short bit of silicone tube inside to hold the struts in the wing.. that should be plenty... the airplane is very light and if i touchdown bad enough to rip a tip float out i want to loose it without making damage to the wing. That gives you also the option of removing the floats for transport

The fuse has now also the front and aft wing support formers in, and is basically complete. I have a bit of a twist in it... but as this won`t be a precision indoor aerobatic plane i guess it wont matter so much

The Fuselage is incredibly stiff !

The Elavator, Rudder and Water Rudder are next on the List
