The Nutz is dead, Long live the Nutz

Well here it is my new shiney Zagnutz, the old one that I laboured over for weeks in the cold in the garage died. Cause of death was not folding wings or death spiral, it was rage and sadly my rage. I was trying to take the tape off of the wing as I had not tapered the TE, lumps of foam came off the knife went deeper and that was that. Still I learnt a lot building the first one and hopefully this one should be a lot better. I deceided to make it modular after seeing quite a few people do it, so it now has two 8mm carbon rods with brass collars. The pod is very basic as I want to get this one to the flying stage with out the loss of any more innocent depron. When ithe COG is sorted and it is flying well, I will then worry about getting the camera fitted. More and hopefully happier updates to follow soon .

all the best from a sunny London.

Yeah couldn't be any thing to do with giving up smoking and needing some nicotine. LOL

I hate when you tear the tape off you nutz and chunks tear out with it. Well hopefully the pain is over and your new nutz works great.

I have not got around to finishing it yet, should have it done by next week and start to know how heavy this will be. I am working on the theory that even bricks fly if you give them enough power LOL. Elevons are going on tonight then if time tommorow get the electrics sorted.

Well real niceweather today,so I managed to maiden znap mk II. The Day did not start well as the field where I usally fly has a fair ground on it at the moment. So after driving around for a while and a long walk I managed to find a field all for my self. I set the cog as far foward as I could at 8" and with only 1/4 throttle gave her a toss in to the wind. Rather than the gentle glide I was expecting the plane shot up at 45 degrees and tried to loop, (CTX's words about test gliding were ringing in my ears.)
I had to use full down elevator to get her back down eventually, after 30 seconds of wallowing around the sky. the only damage was a broken motor mount which some epoxy will fix. It might seem like a wasted flight but I feel that I have learnt quite a bit about this plane today, the next step after fixing it is to add weight where the camera would be, which will help me get the cog forward where it needs to be. More happier updates to come.

Isn't it funny how we all seem to learn the test glide ritual the hard way?

I've been there too, Ian! Better luck with your next flight.
