AN-225 Mryia - EDF-50 - Progress Pics
Here's what I have made so far. Just did the tail tonight and it
looks really cool (horiz and vert stabs). Have a long way to go
but hopefully I'd say in a month or so I plan on test flying it.
Needs lots of sanding, nose has to be done, final tail fuselage
parts, etc. I just laid the parts out on the plan to give you all
an idea of how it's going to look. Thanks for lending me your
Btw, of course it's a high wing plane, parts aren't glued yet.
The real thing...

Man....Thats some neat looking airplane your starting Hawker. It should sound even better with all six of those screaming EDF-50s.
Are you going to use Li-Poly or NiCD/NiMH? and what are you using as an ECS?
|Oct 18, 2002, 12:06 PM|
Thanks Vipula! Going to start with 7 or 8 1600 NiMHs. I may just
try 4 fans (the inboard ones) just to make sure it flys decent. I
have a GWS ICS 400S ESC for 6-10 cells @ 15-25Amps and I
don't want to over do it/fry the thing on 6 motors right away. I
may have to get a larger one.

The entire fuselage is now cut, including the nose. It's very
encouraging to see!
After lots of sanding (still to come) and some covering and
glueing, I'll post more pics. I estimate a week or two to go
before that happens. I still have to buy a radio system with pico
servos and extra wiring to install all the components. I hope to
have the radio gear within a couple weeks.

Hubba-Hubba!!! I'm in love! It doesn't take an imagination to see that planes is a winner already...
GO for the SIX fans... More is better!!!! If your gonna haul them around, they may as well be providing thrust!
When you arm those 6 fans and give them a blast of throttle, people all up and down the flight line are going to stop what their doing and look!

Haha, glad you like it! You know your 707 4 EDF plane is the
reason I'm going ahead with this. I'm convinced it will fly well!
Does the 757 model have a solid fuse, or is it hollowed out?
Mines solid right now (the AN-225) but I'm probably going to
hollow it out tomorrow or the next day.
Do you think my ESC is enough for all 6, or should I get a beefier
I have GWS ICS 400S ESC for 6-10 cells @ 15-25Amps.

I re-did the center wing (scale now), and cut the location out in
the fuselage for it. I taped up all the parts and assembled the
plane. LOOKS REALLY COOL with wings and tail parts in proper
I was planning on getting the fuselage hollowed out but redoing
all the center wing sections and some more sanding ate up all my
time this afternoon. Need to get out of this basement for a
breather. Hopefully tomorrow sometime I'll do the hollowing out
More to come!

More done, I decided to work into the early morning hours. The
fuselage is hollowed out now and starting gluing parts together.
It's amazing how much lighter it is without the solid pieces.
Now I'm deciding on what parts I want the fuselage to be made
of. There's no way I'll have one huge fuse, most likely a nose,
center wing, and tail section. Trying to decide best way to join
them. Wooden dowls? I want the connections snug but not
impossible to remove, and on the other hand not so loose where
the tail would fly off in flight.

I like the idea of the dowels. A touch of clear tape on top, bottom and sides should secure it well and allow it to be removed without adding much, if any weight.

carbon fiber tubes
FWIW...try to use carbon fiber tubes, one going into the other, will be lighter than dowels ,But bigger bucks

I'm thinking off a hot charge with an 8cell pack six of those baby's might pull the full 25amp... Tomorrow night I'll charge my plane and do a static draw with the 8cell nimh pack and I'll give you a low down on the static draw for a single fan...
My 707 has only been hollowed enough to mount the radio and battery... When my new Kokams get here I'll let you know how it flys with the nacelled fans.... Right now I think I've got it a little too heavy for the amount of thrust I'm developing... The new one has the nacelles, landing gear, and hitec 555 rx instead of the parkflier one. Not to mention the 8cell 1100 nimh pack... I'm thinking a little weight reduction will go along way...
Glad to hear your making progress.... Wished I was retired already so I could make a road trip and see the An-225's first flight...
PS... I flew the Zero today with 3cell 1020ma li-poly pack today and it really flew well... Big loops @60%power... I'm not going to use the 8cell 720's in it anymore...

Modeljets, me too. I may be able to get a video of the first flight,
but honestly I'm going to be full of nerves that day anyways and
will probably just go find a secluded field nearby and have the
first test flight alone (or at least with the wife and kids). Once it
succeeds then I'll break out the victory drinks and get it on
Thanks for the advice guys! It really helps out.
Applied lightweight spackling on the nasty parts of the fuse that
really needed it. It's drying now and will probably not be able to
sand it until Wed or Thurs. ProBonded all the fuse parts
together, and got the tail feathers bonding up now as well. Cut
out the elevators (or should I say, elevons). I really think I am
going to have elevons on this big thing. Probably ailerons too, or
flaperons, I haven't decided. Now that the fuse is hollow I can
see how light weight it is. I think it'll do fine with a couple extra
And what I can't wait for... nav lights with 2 landing
Just for fun I stopped by Lowes today and brought home a
bundle of fan-fold blue Dow foam. That Xbow looks very
tempting! I'll have a few heavies to fly but need to add some
smaller fighter types eventually.
