My smaller scale stuff (under 4 meters) I test fly at the La Sierra slope in Riverside. It's a little bunny hill with a reasonably good landing area that makes it perfect for test flights. It's actually a decent place to fly them when it's not too hot.

I'm for the b***s out system.
1. Find a cliff at least 100ft with the breeze right on - preferably with direct access to salt water.
2. check, double check and check again all perameters ( the Ocean helps with this)
3. Throw it off. The pilot's reflexes are now honed to perfection.
Any failure of preparation is now obvious, if not, you have a nice 1/4 scale to impress your friends with next time.

Daveosoar: I like that. But not for me.

S2000; It's a Sinbad with a 126" wingspan.

TFLG; I was thinking about La Sierra, Will try to get it dial in Sat.

Bie; never tried Aerotowing.

If your Sinbad hasn't got ailerons, as I suspect it is a vintage model, you can expect a pretty slow rudder responce. Rudder responce is a result of inter action between rudder and dehedral. No dehedral.... no turn, nomatter how big the rudder is

The caption says it's Glider Point. I have never been there but have to check it out some day. Directions on the ISR website under Glider Point. There are so many sites listed there that I have yet to fly at

Lee, thanks for asking that question. I just picked up a used Multiplex KA6 (3.8m ws) and was wondering the same thing. I have the Torrey Pines cliff to chuck it off or I need to find a club member to help with aerotow (I at least have options in my club). I'm still setting up the model, but the timing of your question was perfect for me. Since most of my flying has been off a winch at our thermal field, I will need help to make sure I do this right. Thanks.
