Open day and Night sail 7th June 08

We hosted an open day and night sail on Saturday, the weather was a little ominous in the morning and we didn't have a huge turnout but luckily the weather was good for the afternoon.
There was more water in the lake than I'd ever seen, it was at the same level as the planks of the wharf and encroached on areas that are usually dry which made for some damp feet, it didn't dampen the spirits of those who attended however. There is photographic evidence of the rotunda surrounded by water in the past.
Some of the goings on included the launching by John of an Australian style paddlesteamer, the name escapes me however, with some clever engineering.
785boats/Paul with his canard hydro literaly spinning the blades off his prop, David running his Missouri for so long his electronics batteries went flat and the usual forget to switch on before launchings etc.
The night sail was especially pretty with our lit buoys and navigation and flood lights reflecting off the water.

Somthing else that happened, Col and I had a pull off, "Amsterdam" mariner against BEPB Springer, 12 volt brushed, 3:1 gear, 65 mm prop, against 6 volt, brushless, 40 mm prop, it was a surprisingly close contest however Im ashamed to say I was out gunned.
Regards
Nick

Might run 12 volts next time

Hi Umi,
Solar powered lights, come on automatically at dusk.

Green boat, Ill find out, I don't have a close-up but I think they came with the different leds.

It was cool, we try to do a night sail every 3 months or so.

Regards
Nick

Just recieved a TrueValue flyer in the mail today, which I never pay attention to. What's on the front cover under bargain of the month? Brushed stainless steel solar LED yard light for $2.99.

Hi guys.
I did take a video at night with my camera. The boats don't show particularly well but the lights are really nice. gives you some idea of the bouys.
Night sail at Tygum Lake (1 min 27 sec)

All the best.

What's the reason that you can't Tom? Is it local council restrictions? Or is there no access after dark.
Cheers.
Paul.

Sunday 15th of June

Wow, we had a huge turnout of people today, thanks to a little promotion, I added our sail days to a website called Ourbrisbane, next thing you know a reporter for the state paper rings me and offers to put a little blurb in the paper, and I heard this morning that even a radio station mentioned us. Ive never handed out so many membership forms.

Things appear to be on the up after a few little hiccups around the beginning of the year.

Col towed the rescue dingy with 2 people on board, he's been upping the power, added a kort nozzle and tweaking the electronics. My poor Springer hasn't a chance I have a plan, super 3X springer with 3, 24V 2000GPM bilge pump motors and 3, 100 mm props.

Ken and Evonne have kindly made a new notice board to replace the board that was in the stolen trailer and a very nice peice of work it is.

We have been able to reduce the membership fees to $30.00 p.a. now we don't have to insure the trailer.

Regards
Nick

The city parks in Los Angeles are closed and locked at sundown.

Well done with the promo Nick. I'll have to mention that site to our secretary. New members are always a good thing. Your new springer idea sounds like a beast of a thing.
Kmot.
That's unfortunate. Sad actually. Another one of life's little luxuries thwarted by regulations.
Regards.

Officially we have to apply to the council for night sails, Maybe you could apply to the authority running the park for permission ?
785boats,
Its easy to add info to the ourbrisbane site, I am wondering about the your triple"s" site how that is set up etc. We don't have a web site so it is a way to have a web presence.
Regards
