7x4 prop on a 2500KV long can? I'm thinking this will be well over 35 amps with 3S lipos. My 2200KV motor pulls over 50 amps with a 7x5e and quality 3S lipos.

Just a guess.

I think I am looking for LiPos to work with a Castle Creations Pheonix 35 and a Medusa Afterburner 28-40-2500kv. I believe that it should be a 3S setup. I think the CC35 will only handle a 3S configuration Voltage wise and be able to use the BEC. What do you think?

It will be pushing the cc 35 with the medusa.A 3s 3700 or 4350' would be a good choice.

Ok, how about new batteries and a new ESC? Any suggestions on both with the Medusa Afterburner 28-40-2500kv?
Thanks.

i suggest castle creations. i have a phoenix 60 in my fifty and it is a great esc. good service from castle, and awesome programmability with the castle usb link.

now that i've been using a123 batteries in my ritewings, i have also used the suppo esc from www.lightflightrc.com/ 24 bucks for a 60amp esc. i prefer castle for using lipos. programmable cut off voltage is great.

You'll have exacty the setup I have, 3s battery, Medusa Afterburner 28-40-2500kv and Phoenix 60 ESC. I used a 6x4 prop and so far that has been my favorite.

A 2-2s setup would be nice. As a beginner, I've had some flakey launches. A little more take-off thrus might make the toss a little easier. But if I had a 4 cell setup, it would crash harder and the plane wouldn't have lasted as long.

I'm working on replacing my beat up TL-50 with Demon 40. That 50 has taken a few beatings. I am REALLY impressed with how resilliant these planes are. You've made a good choice in the TL-50.

Medusa 2500 guide

Here is a snip from the Medusa 028-040-2500 spec sheet...
It says that if I use a 3S batt and a 6x4 APC prop, that it will max out at 33 Amps.

Does that sound right?

If so, then I could still use my Castle Creations 35 Amp ESC, and the BEC. [Castle says not to use the on-board BEC with 4S and above.]

Medusa also has a Motor Calculator on their site.

If I need to reduce current, then I can change the prop to a 5.5x4.5.

Abrams, do you know how many Amps your 3S configuration draws?

Thanks.

I plugged in a 2200 motor, 3S, and 7x5 prop into the motor Medusa motor calculator, it shows 49 Amps. Nice when the equations match reality. It also shows you get 56 oz (3.5 pounds) of thrust for your setup! It must really move.

It definitely moves along quite nicely. The 7" dia prop gives some impressive vertical. I run 3S 5000's so I get great flight times as well.

I used a 6x4 apc on a warp 4 3 turn which I believe is 2560 kv. The static amps were between 33 and 38 depending on battery C rating and such. I use a cc35 as well. Although the CC's are underated and can take more amps than specified I limited my wot runs. Never had an issue with heat or anything. My meager 25 oz. wing screamed bloody murder when I did hit wot..
