Silverlit X-UFO (w/X-3D Piezo Gyro Upgrade pt 2) and BL UFO Upgrade

With the Poll - Silverlit X-UFO (w/X-3D Piezo Gyro Upgrade) hitting 1025 posts ... I think it is time to split the thread group yet again ...

To keep the Silverlit X-UFO thread alive, this discussion is not limited to the X-3D Mod (although it is a great starting point for X-3D discussion) ... so continue on with the forum of general discussion as well.

Answers to most general questions can be found in the Above Thread as well as in Silverlit X-UFO... The next XRB??? Part 2 and Part 1 as well as over at the more organized wealth of info at forum.xufo.net ... a German site where there is an International Landing Pad and an "In English" translator in the Tool Bar.

Info on and ordering the new X-3D upgrade module can be found at http://www.xufo-shop.de/ where the English manual can be downloaded. To order, I used http://babelfish.altavista.com to translate German to English each section of the order form ... or email them in English and they should help you out ... nice folks there.

Y' know, it occurs to me (too late of course), next time, why don't we just call it "X-UFO general discussion". It hasn't been limited to the topic title for several generations now...

I already closed the page but I think the motors were 7 or 8 dollars US.

Yeah, Check their price for shipping: $13 PER ITEM on an $8 motor. Other items have similar shipping charges. $12 to ship a set of crystals??? Those thieves must have learned about sales on eBay. Sorry to call them that, but anybody who does business that way is a thief.

Yup ... you are right ... I was just thinking of continuity for the folks used to the subject line when scanning for it ... ... who would have thought that this discussion has gotten so BIG? ... it actually warrants its own discussion group similar to the Draganflyer one in RC Universe where topics can actually be organized and separate ... like the forum.

I think that their shop is directly from Silverlit China ... so the shipping charges reflect that ... they also sell the special upgrades for I-Cybie that are not available anywhere but there.

I didn't even look at shipping, I just remembered seeing that they had parts. Is it $13 dollars for each item no matter how many you buy?

Man, I am having so much fun with this thing. I think the best way to learn is to have clear objectives in flight instead of the goal trying to be to keep it from crashing. I take it from one landing area to another, lather, rinse and repeat and now I am getting pretty good.

I cannot wait to get the X-3D, BL, etc

Hello,

I have been looking pretty closely at the BL frames.

I have found three that are being sold.

Q4 Dragster ALU 30
Weight 78g
Carbon fiber and ALU
283.10 or 267.10 Euros, depending on anodizing
$376.76 or $355.47 in US Dollars (as of today)

Q4 Freestyle CF 30
Weight 62g
Carbon fiber
123.10 Euros
$163.82 US

X-CSM
Weight 68g
Carbon-Sand embedded Balsa-Magnesium
150 Euros
$199.62 US

This is the basic info I can find on the frames, if I have anything wrong please let me know.

The X-CSM has the Under cage, personally that is what I like best about it, oh that and its landing gear.

I was surprised to see the Q4 Freestyle weighs less than the X-CSM.

As for strength I have seen a picture of Hammer standing on the Q4. I have not seen this with the X-CSM, there may be a picture like that somewhere, just I have not seen it.

Something that crossed my mind, and in no way is fact, the X-CSM, to me looks like the easiest to assemble, less parts and probably the easiest to produce, I have no idea of the cost of the material, is not lightest frame, nor is it the cheapest, Is it stronger than the Q4? It just makes me wonder if maybe this is the recommended frame because it could be the most profitable, in other words good marketing.

If I buy an X-CSM it will be because of the landing gear/skids. Does anyone know if the X-CSM landing gear/skids are adaptable to the other models? One problem I have with the brushed x-ufo is landing, alright crashing, in the grass, it is almost impossible to take off from the grass, it gets tangled up in the gears/rotors. That X-CSM gear looks like it will hold the rotors up high enough where it will not be as much a problem.

John,
There may also be some independent BL frame designers that may be able to make/sell some of their designs if enough interest is expressed ... i.e., bogomir67 and rudiman and rudiman mods for Hammer Frames and Heat Sink Info in here ... HINT HINT!

There are also some cool custom frames here ... including some of tschennings (who also co-designed the X-CSM) and Hammers ... funny, my bug-riser landing gear mod made it in there too

When you get really good at flying, you won't need landing skids anymore ... just hand launch it and steer it back and hand catch it.

Just found this nice progressive X-UFO/X-Crew development compilation video ... http://www.erop.de/das_ufo_jahr_2006.wmv

Thanks for the info, I did see some of bogomir67's he has some pretty cool ideas. I will hit the links you put up, I have been through quite a bit of the x-ufo German forum, just as you know it is so hard to read.

I am no where good enough to catch the ufo, and I have a pretty hard time launching it from my hand too, I need one of those TX trays, next, I have to fly with the antenna down position, I am no where near as good flying with my thumbs any more. I often do a controlled crash, especially the last few times I took t out, it has been too windy.

Thanks

John

Eric,

I was just checking out those radio trays from the link you gave me a while ago. Did you need the Futaba modification thing for $3.50, I saw it says it is for the futaba 9Z, I just want to make sure if i might need it.

About the pro pad, it looks like it is to rest your hands on, I do not think i need it, do you have one? If so do you like it, use it?

Oh, there are some nice frames and mods on those links. I wish I had the talent/tools to build one myself.

Thanks,

John

No ... you don't need the Futaba mod for the Futaba 9C ... the 9Z has a bigger underside ... my 9C fit perfectly ... yes I fly with the Pro-Pad and yes, it is for resting your hands ... I love it and fly with fingers instead of thumbs ... more ergonomic too ... http://forum.xufo.net/bb/download.php?id=2011 and http://forum.xufo.net/bb/download.php?id=2093

If you can build your own frame ... you can save 1/2 the cost of the BL upgrade ...

Thanks Eric,

Yeah, I need one of those trays big time. your the one that got me started flying like that, it is a lot easier for me, My hands are pretty messed up (arthritis), I could do the thumbs flying with the stock TX but the futaba is too big. I have been looking for an antenna that is at a 90 degree angle or so for the TX, Ive not had any luck so far.

What you are saying about the frame being half the cost is that right? What are the estimates for the BL kit for everything except the frame, radio, battery and X-3D? I thoutht it would be closer to $1000, If you are talking about the most expensive frame being 1/2 the cost, that is closer to $500. Is that right?

Thanks,

John

I've been looking for a 90 degree antenna too ... might have to make one ... gotta find one of those single rabbit ear TV antennas and see ... my mom has a bad bout with arthritis in her hands too ... so, I know what challenges you are facing ... hang in there

I was saying hypothetically speaking ... the Hammer frames can run up to $400 or so ... if you go that route ... which is close to half of the $1000 cost.

Thanks, See all along I thought it was going to be about $1000 for the kit after the frame and X-3D. so that is good news for me.

Looking at the UAVP, what your saying sounds right. They have a kit that includes everything including a Dragster 50 ALU frame (almost $600 US) for about 1000 USD, there most expensive kit is about $1500US but it looks like it has all the add on modules and it looks like there more expensive than the BL XUFO's.

Thanks
