Good quality 5 or 6 inch LCD screen?

Hi all,

I'm doing a bit of brainstorming for some improvements I can make to my downlink system and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good place to buy a high quality 5 or 6 inch LCD screen from which can take a standard RCA input? The PS1 screen I'm currently using is ok .... but you get what you pay for, and at £30 it's a little on the crummy side

Any recommendations/thoughts?

Many thanks!

Over here, additional monitors for in-car DVD players are getting more and more common in places like wal-mart, perhaps look in Halfords or similar?

Hmm just looked and they're all £100-£200 or more

I've found something similar to the PS1 screen I'm using .... the screen for the PS2!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=190095451620

Shame it's widescreen .... my video feed will either be stretched or will have black bars down the side ....

Good price though , and presumably a higher quality than the PS1 screen I'm using at the moment!

Let me know what you think of this screen when you get it. I just noticed them online last night too. They caught my eye but I would like to know how they handle bright sunlight.

Every time I go to Target here, they have a 7" widescreen dvd player for 80$ (40 pounds). Looks decent enough.

The question is, whether all these DVD players have RCA in .... there're loads of cheap DVD players here too .... such as this one:

Hmmmm ....

Okey dokey I've just ordered this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Veba-AV560MB-5...QQcmdZViewItem

.... will let you know a) when it arrives, and b) what it's like

Btw, other shops online are selling it for £100-£130!!

Thanks for your support everyone

David

Edit: Woo! Looks like I got the last one!

Double Edit! Once I've finished developing this new system I will probably have a second hand PS1 screen for sale if anyone wants it. Watch this space..... I'll warn you now that it'll probably be quite a big space though

Looks good mate. I'd be really interested to hear about it's performance in sunlight.

I bought a 8" LCD some time ago and while the picture is fantastic inside, it's completely washed out once you get it out in the bright light. I've tried glare filters and hoods but nothing has really made it a viable alternative to the TFT display on my camcorder.

Keep us posted!

David - Looks OK, but 20 quid postage is rather taking the mickey. From my limited experience, ALL LCD's wash out in bright sunlight except the very expensive 'transflective' types which are starting to appear on things such as car satnav units.

I've tried LCD, CRT, and TFT and got the same results in sunlight. You have to have some sort of hood over the screen, otherwise they mostly ALL wash out in bright light. It's basically just the nature of the technology.

I emailed the guy and asked why the postage was so expensive, and he says because he's selling the unit so cheap anyway he wants to make a little profit .... which is fair enough I guess He's still £30+ cheaper than the nearest competing retailer .... I mean, look at this one!

http://www.dnacaraudio.co.uk/index.h...nline/168/fruk

I was planning to use a form of hood from the start
