What is the BEST 500 size heli?

Hi guys,

I am sure that this has been asked before but time goes by and new helis emerge.

So in the current market, what is the best 500 size heli and why?

I'm looking at parts count, how it performs from beginner to 3D, parts availability and whatever else you think makes a great helicopter.

So lets have some debate from the passionate....

Cheers,

WD

Sorry Oz, I was thinking motor size such as in the EP8 from QOJ. Maybe both, blade and motor?

500mm blades , GAUI EP500 is nice for price/performance.
If you request for quality, Logo10/Logo500 is the best.

Well, there's really only one true 500-bladed heli right now, and that is the Logo 10. If you widen your specs a bit to 550 blades, there's lots of choices, like the Swift, the Hurricane 550 and the e550 Raptor, to name a few. In a few weeks the new Logo 500 will be out, which also will allow up to 550s. Personally, I'd wait for the Logo 500.

On the left of 500 a little is the Eco 8, which comes with 480mm blades and can probably handle 500s just fine with an adequate power system. It's an old design but still works very well.

Best bang-for-you-buck ~500 heli, that is currently available, is the Swift imop. Performs well, priced right, and spares are easy to get and cheap. Also, you can use cheaper and easier to get standard cyclic servos.

Use a good quality gyro/tail servo to begin with like the Futaba 401/9254 combo.

Start with a 4-5s 3700 evo20 pack with the Century 600+ motor (or see Gary G. for the newer version Z30A-1100) and Align 75a esc, and use the stock 520mm wood blades that come with the kit. Gear your HS to ~1900-2100 rpm. This will take you to good acrobatics and soft 3D.

Upgrade later to 6s, a metal head block, triple bearing mount, and CF main blades and aim at 2100-2200 hs for some hard 3D.

Just my 0.02!

Cheers,

Tom C

You also have the Hirobo Lepton, flies great but is very expensive.

The Lepton is currently the bad ass heli in the 425mm blade size. Expensive, but smooth as could be and TONS of power. Love mine

I'm building an LAHeli Sniper. 440 or 470 mm blades, 1.5 Kg. 4s 3700 MaH battery.

Will report when it flies. Meanwhile see Kai Shiden's Sniper build thread on this forum for details.
