Peakmodel Edge 540 + Peak 26CC

Hi guys! I am thinking for getting one with the Peak 26 Engine. Has Anyone flown this model with this setup? How is Vertical Performance? Here's the link for the model: http://www.peakmodel.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=331 I have never flown gassers before, but i'm ready to take challange with my limited founds
The peak engine looks nice with it's rear carb and pitts muffer- should be a good selection.
Any other suggestions with what should i start? (i'm an intermediate flyer and i can and do fly 3D)
Thanks for your help
Regards
Andrew

Peak Models

I'll be watching your thread closely as I've been interested in their Katana series. You can't beat that small gasser engine either, its had quite a few positive reviews. As for the plane, good luck and I'll be watching. Good luck with your decision and build.

Edge

I bought the plane with peak 26 engine. Plane is super good, empty weight was 2 kg, i made it AUW to 3.8 Kg using lightest eqipment avialable- 2 cell 1500 Kokam Lipo for servos, Graupner SMC-16 Receiver, 10 oz fuel tank, but the engine was a total mess- no good in stock- i had to rebuild it completely, but still it was worth of those 200 euro witch was saved, because Peak Cost $250, and Mvvs 26 350 Euro I'll post pictures of plane and video ass soon as i'll get them from my friend, but here's pics of engine when i bought it: http://fotki.lv/?x=OS5RKFxDRy06RDxIU...JFRy06TTxIMSAj

Did you have to mod the firewall for the engine?

i didnot use extension tubes for mounting the engine, so i had to make a hole to fit the carb, no other mods where made.

Strong enough for what?

If its your first gasser then you have a steep learning curve ahead but well worth it. Ask many questions at your club from other gasser owners but take it all with a grain of salt as theres more than one way to approach gas engines.

I bought the SPE40 and its strong engine but its not a patch on my DA50.

Nice job DronN.

Just one question. Does the carburetor mountend on Peak 26 has a choke? In a forum in Spain I have read that it hasn't and must be turned on with a starter.

Yeah, it hasn't got one. It was so much pain to start it, i had to plug it with my finger every time when it wasn't primed enough. I made lots of modifications to it, it runned very well when started, but i gave it up and swapped it to carb from SPE engine with choke. No problems any more, the only problem is that i can't adjust the engine properly- in static conditions i get mostly everything out of it, but when i'm getting it up in the air it sounds awfully rich- lean it out- it dies. i havent got much time to adjust it on field, practicly these chinese engines need 1 day from dusk till dawn to get them run good. Somewhy it seems that 26 is a bit short for edge. if i would have a chance and money i would swap it out with mvvs 26cc gasser and would forget all problems with lack of performance.
After half year of pain with this chinese engine i have understoot that electric is better! I have a yak same size with 5S, and some chinese brushless and 2- if you want go gas, put a dollar in your sock every day, and buy a good engine like 3W or Mvvs.

Hello again DronN!

I have replaced the original carburetor with a spe one but the engine doesn't take gas when flipping the propeller.

I put the side with the intake for presurize from the peak carburetor in the spe carburetor.

Does I have to make another modification to have it working?

I have only started the engine a little, at home. The first start I have to flip the propeller with the finger in the carburetor. If I stop de engine by cutting the CDI current, the engine can be started easilly without closing the carburetor with the finger. I don't know if when it was mounted on the airplane it will be the same way...
