SPFD, I think your aileron design is brilliant, and fits in perfectly with the compound sweep angle of the wing. I don't understand aerodynamics well enough to know why, but there was something about the original design of this wing that hit me over the head like a hammer when I first saw it. I had the same feeling when I saw your aileron solution. I can't recall seeing another wing design that achieves stability without a vertical stabilizer or winglets. I'm guessing that the compound sweep angle has something to do with that, and that your aileron design may have an enhancing effect.

Man your making me blush. The air surfer is a patented design and I want to give credit where credit is due.

But I appreciate your praise for the innovation.

I have been flying my ducted fan model quite a bit and plan on
entering it into the contest.

The big brother blue fan fold wing is flying well but I added some
small rudders on to it to help the yaw in the turns. (It's almost
a 5' wing span.) It turns well, but when you really bank it over hard it will see-saw some.

I remember a couple of months ago there was a show on PBS hosted by Alan Alda, I think it was Scientific American Frontiers. Anyway if I remember right he covered a family who was into aeronautical engineering. I think they were discussing some really efficient lifting devices they were developing, and one of the guests had a flying wing that reminds me of the Air Surfer. I'm not sure there is any relationship to the Air Surfer but he could launch it with the gentlest of tosses and was able to keep it aloft by walking behind it with his hand underneath it. Vortices of air from his finger tips generated turbulance and helped to sustain lift.

C of G

Hey Folks

Just thought some of you would like to know. I forgot to put this on my plans.

I checked the measurements on the planes I am flying and with the orginal surfer.
The C/G is approx 60% back from the front leading edge in the middle where the wings join.

Hope this helps. You will probabiliy need to fine tune the exact center because, as you know Flying wings are a bit tricky to get just right.

Magnificent! Great video, SPFD-E-FLYER! It looks to be a wonderfully stable flyer. I am surprised at how quick it looks with only a single GWS fan for all of that wing area. It also appears to be very clean aerodynamically. That 40" wing is Depron? Would Bluecor yield similar results?

Most of that flying was done at half throttle
When you start flying it full tilt you ned to turn the throws down or it will be a little over-controled

It is still flying great

A couple of variations on a theme.
The bipe glides well but is not stable in forward flight. It keeps
wanting to roll over to either side. The larger 'stinger' glides just
as good as a single wing, straight and true. Don't think I'll leave
the tail on it, I just put a spacer in between the two wing halves
to make it total 40" and left the excess sticking out the back.

Nice work, DNA. I had thought that a pair of these wings would make a nice "fantasy" bipe, sort of like an early 1900s aeroplane but not exactly like anything specific. I'll bet your bipe wings would work really well with a fuse and tail feathers.

Nice video SPFD-E-FLYER, and the hand catch is perfect, I can see you are quite pleased at the end. I saved that one on my system.

Good job on the bipe DNA. On the Haasbro power surfer the wings have more stagger to them. It may help the stability problem, they probably did it for a reason.

If you look at it straight down from the top the rear (lower) wing only 'laps' under the top wing by about an inch, with the CG at that overlap point. The trailing edge of the top, and the leading edge of the bottom wing. They also have some dihederal set in the wings.

Here's a top view, but it's shot from the front and the wings are a little farther apart than they actually appear in the photo. Haasbros' setup is as much a front and rear wing as it is an upper and lower wing.

You might want to experiment with that and see what happens.
