Build Log
Byron F-86 edf build

Here is my byron f-86 that I picked up almost new in the box.
About the only thing that had been done when I got it was the formers were glued in with carbon fiber, and the inner gear doors for the main's were done.

I would like to thank Bob (bruff) for helping me out with some questions that I had in the beginning of this project
I will be going with the hacker / cc 85hv set up on 10s or 11s.

I am still trying to decide on a paint scheme , but have decided on doing a natural aluminum finish with bvm metal coat 2.

I dont get to work on it as much as I would like to, so I will add updates and pics when I can.

I will work on posting the pics that I have so far tonight , but here are a few for starters.
I threw in my alfa f-86 for a size comparison

Keep going! I got the same airplane to convert also. Are you going to glass the foam parts?

Here are some pics of the retracts and gear doors.
They are rom-air and have put some robart struts on them.
The offset strut hasnt made it here yet, but should be here tomorrow.
I made a brass sleve and soldered some ball links to it for the main gear doors as you see in the pics.

I completely re-done the way byron had designed the location for the front air cylinder. They had it going from top to bottom and stuck out like a sore thumb when you looked through th intake........not for me.

few more
also...something I have changed is the horizonal stab. Stock form from the kit.....it was straight, like a F-86 H. I made a jig to bend the tubes to match the angle like a F model (dihedreal).

So Bob, have you started on yours at all, or is it new in the box?

Mine is built, needs final retract install and control surfaces hinged. I'm going with servos located at the control surface. I'm not using Byrons linkage. I'm glassing all the foam. I'm going with a Fury paint scheme.

Sweet,
Another thing about the Fury is that the horz stab was straight so at least you didnt have to go changing that

The weight on mine with it all assembled so far with the main retracts and wheels is 4 1/2 lbs.- What ya think?
I think Im going to take out the servo trays he put in and try to get out all the epoxy and carbon he added to it and re do all of it.........

I'm going to try to use the servo tray under the canopy for my batteries mount.

edf nut,

I picked up a Byron F-86 to convert to EDF about two months ago. Mine had last been flown with a Jett 90 in the nose turning a prop. I just got a NIB Byron fan, and I am planning on picking up the adapter this weekend at Florida Jets. As My plane had a fire wall added and no tail pipe ducting would you be willing to post some pictures thru the nose showing the front bulkhead and nose retract mount? Also the tail pipe former? I have rebuilt the entire nose to fill in all the holes for the glow motor, and reatached the "cowling" that had been cut off from the nose, so now I need to work on the internals. My plane also has the rudder and elevator servos mounted on the top of the fuselage behind the fan (under a hatch). Is this where Byron mounted them? Thank you in advance for any help you can give! Your work is very nice and I look forward to watching your progress.

Sean

Sean,
Sounds like quite a project,
I will try to help you out any way I can. All my hobby stuff is at my dad's house and will be up there this weekend. I will take some pics for you of the plane and some of the plans. The stock location for the servos is under the canopy.

If you could post some pics of your jet we could get a better idea of things and figure out the best way of getting it the way you want it.
