Hi Pat,
I've been told Jim was the first Early Bird of FW-190.
He would be the first pilot of this fighter in USA.

I think you should have kept quiet Jim because it looks like you could just have volunteered for the build thread - what say the rest of you guys??

I'm all over that one like a hobo on a ham sandwich! I'll be using a GWS BL 2215\12, GWS servos, and a Spektrum AR6100 receiver. I was considering glassing it with silkspan and WBPU but since it may be the first build from a hobbiest point of view, think I should do it or just go "stock"?

Go stock! At least for the first round... Then we can all see what if any pitfalls there are (or aren't).

I plan to put the fuse against some scale drawings. It looks like it might be to cartoon scale, with an oversize canopy, and the canopy too far back on the fuse. The wierd stuff on the ailerons is wacky too.. I made a mold to pull vac form wheel wells to pretty that up.

Hi Spinnetti,

Its canopy is nither oversize nor too far back on the fuselage. It's almost a scale one. I'm sure you could pretty it up if you put retractable L/G on it.

One vote for stock - anyone else in the peanut gallery want to place a vote?

Sorry, I'm sure its fine - just looks a bit strange in the pictures. Unfortunately you can clearly see how the aileron detail on your model in no way models the real thing, but this is a small detail that can be corrected by making my own ailerons or filling the ones provided and redoing the detail.

I have construction drawings and many scale drawings, so when I get it, I'll check. I also used to have a 60% scale replica. I am making working aluminum oleos with scale angles and retracts too. By the time I get it, I should have this gear made for it.

Here's a couple of my favorite paint schemes (a historical one and the #77 which is my personal one for the IL2 game) and example drawings I was talking about.

Thanks.

That covering looks great on the plane, but the pilot looks cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeesy. It's like hanging fuzzy dice off the rear-view mirror of a Ferrari or something.

The scale is the same as the PZ-190. I'm installing one on my FW-190.

As far as the spinner is concerned I have no problems, because I can make an exact scale one using foam that will weigh only 4-6 grams. This light weight means that this style spinner is good for 10,000 RPM.
