Lost my A/B sailplane today

As the title says.. King Peach warmup for the Nats today @ Fayette field.

80" graupner V-tail. Had my precious F7, L160C, 7x1700RC, 555, 3xHS81..

I think a stab failure at the end of the 45 second climb caused a massive pitch change that caused the one-piece wing to snap in half. The stabs landed back on the field, the wing pieces deep enough in the woods that I wasn't even going to bother. The fuse would have gone straight down at least 1/8 mile into the woods. Has my name on it, but even if it's found, I doubt there's anything left worth saving.

I worked on the retrieval boat today at our club float-fly and hauled in a lot of this type of carnage, it's not a pretty sight but we got all the wrecks before they sank to the bottom.

Andy, an 8th of a mile isn't that far. I'm sure the trajectory is marked in your mind. Take a friend or two and take a walk in the woods. After you look where you think it could be take a look where you're sure it could'nt be. Your F7 probably made it. Might take more than one trip.

If it went down in the woods, then it may have hit a tree before the ground which absorbed the impact. Much of the elctronics may be salvageable.
If you find it, at least you will have "closure", and it won't keep you up at night wondering what happened to it!

Bummer, don't give up. I found that my battery had disconnected on impact and my electrics were ok a week and a half later, on my Lightstick. Go out and hunt for it!!---Rob

Andy, that really sucks. I'd be looking everytime I went back there. A poster with a reward offer may also help. Good Luck!

Thanks for the comments. There is no way to get into those woods, at least not until winter when everything thins out. I doubt it will be recovered.
As to anything slowing it down - the fuse came straight down without wings or tail feathers from several hundred feet up.

No, they found that on Saturday morning.. Nice water line where it had landed right-side up in a swamp.
My fuse is a little deeper, in both respects!

Sorry to hear....i too lost a good friend this weekend - my SSP400. I was flying 5 different planes (2 in club contest) and in a rush forgot to change model memories.

...although my loss was basically just the airframe - id offer up a case of suds to any and all that find your gear !!! may get a few more eyeballs out trekking with you

Andy,
There are several Ultra light pilots that buzz the area, one even landed at the field once. Not sure just how to contact them but one of them might be your best shot...
