Ulsan Korea

Hello Everyone,
I just moved to Ulsan from California. I've been flying helicopters and planes for two years now and would like to continue my flying here. If anyone knows of RC fields or stores around Ulsan please let me know.
Thanks, Rob

Hi guys. I am an American living in the Gangneung area, Gangwon-do. I fly my Easy Star and Easy Glider Electric, and to a much lesser extent, my Easy Glider (non-electric) and Sophisticated Lady. I am mainly interested in Thermal flight with sailplanes. I use electric power because I don't think there's a big enough field nearby for a high start. Actually, there are some pretty big rice fields in the area, but the ground is pretty soft to put a stake in. I would be really interested in learning how to slope, but I'm afraid to try it on my own.

Dear dmt

Slope flying is much easier than looking for thermals! Give it a try. GangNeung area has lots of mountains and cliffs that you can slope on if the wind is right. I used to live in Korea and learned to fly r/c there. I too am a real fan of Multiplex elapor planes. I probably assembled 10 or more Easy Stars, still have a pure Easy Glider and just finished a motorized Cularis.

Mr. Kim of JK Flight still operates his website. Check it out at http://www.jkflight.com/ He makes his own slope glider called Zenith. I've built 1 and flew it at Parker Mountain in California.

Another site is at a cafe at daum.net called rccafe. They are located in Seoul and have an active group.

Xevious RC Club is perhaps the oldest rc flying club in Korea. Check them out at http://cafe.naver.com/xeviousclub.cafe They are heavily into sloping. Mr. Kim of JK Flight hangs out with them too.

There is a famous sloping site an hour north of Daegu called HwangGeumSan. On any given windy weekend you are likely to find some sloper flying there.

As with any non-essential expenditures, rc flying decreases in times of economic downturn so you might find less flying buddies these days. Hope they come back as the economy stabilizes.

Best wishes,

sam

Hello.
Is this an rc club in korea?
Or is it just in America or for helis and airplanes?
I currently want to join a rc car club in Korea and I was wondering if any of the people here knew any.
Thanks

P.S. My computer cannot write in Korean, so I had to write in English.... Sorry.

this is an on-line RC Groups regional page for Korean. Members from both Korea and US participate in this page. Most of us are into airplanes. RC car clubs in Korea are quite active. I know of one former RC car enthusiast who operates RC Cafe in Seoul. His name is Sohn Jung Wan. Try this site http://cafe.daum.net/RCCAFE Cell phone number is 011-313-0922. Good luck!

Regarding a post by red_z06, whose opinion I wholly agree with: I want a place to find some close by RCers to fly with.

I was hopping for a ( reply count = number of US fliers ).
I know that you mean well but this list is turning into another discussion/greeting page.
However, when I inputted my EXACT longitude and latitude into my RC Groups profile (find long and lats by going to maps.google.com, inputting your address in the search field, scrolling around and zooming to get your exact location if exact address did not give you a red marker already, right click on map to get the exact longitude and latitude), all the posters who also inputted their long and lats (whether accurate or just to a city center) appear to me with their distance from me under their names. Keep your long and lats accurate and current!!!

I just now wait for someone who lives close by and who seem to have similar interests. I am looking for someone who speaks English, isn't an active R/C shop owner recruiting clients, middle-aged, and isn't otherwise weird.

Ok, I can give a little info about myself.
In Sweden where I grew up, I used to build a lot of RC models (cars, planes, boats - the whole lot) when I was young (14-18 yrs), Then other things became a priority. I am now 37 and married with 3 boys (8, 10 and 12 yrs old).
I work for General Electric, representing the company in a Joint Venture we have with Hyundai Card and Capital in Korea. I've been here with my family for a little over a year now, and will stay for at least another year. I work with Marketing for Hyundai Card specifically.
I live in Yonhee-Dong, behind Yonsei University, and Close to Seoul Foreign School where my kids attend.
I don't always have a lot of time to spare, but in this sport, I can have my kids involved as well to some degree. I am interested in all kinds of RC crafts, but right now I think flying is the most interesting (am pretty much a beginner again). Boats could be interesting as well, as there is a lot of water here in Seoul :-)
I'm looking for people in Seoul who can help showing me a little about the Where's and How's, and if there is any local club in Seoul, where someone speak some English, it would be great.
Hope that gives a little background :-)
Saxabroad, for example, seems very promising to look up, since when I note his "Distance from you: 5932 mi" (probably not updated to his current location in Korea) but also note that he is behind Yonsei University, I know he lives close by.

Saxabroad, I actually have a freshman daughter in SFS high school, although I live across the city. We should get together sometime.

I really joined RC Groups to ask if anyone knew of any good flying fields in Seoul (nearby Gangnam area, if possible) area? I really don't want to associate with any hobby shop, since the ones I checked out so far have seemed rapacious in their quote of prices and "insurance" fees to join their club. I speak Korean quite fluently and read Korean too, but I currently type in English much faster.

(Maybe too long for my first post here, and maybe I'm alienating a lot of posters with my negativity to club affiliations? Sorry! I'm sure that there're a lot of cool clubs out there; I just haven't met any).

edit: just had to add some stuff I left out first post

Demuddy,

Although I am now located in Washington D.C. area, I will be returning to Seoul next summer. Hope to meet up with you then. Flying sites in Seoul are difficult to find. There is an official RC airport on the southern bank of Han River near AmSaDong. However, I hear that it is dominated by expensive and high end pattern flyers who may not be very tolerant of newbies. But, it all depends on your approach. For me, this RC thing has opened up a whole world of new friends all over Korea and the US. As long as we are talking about flying, nothing is weird I am a member of RC Cafe in Seoul. Mr. Sohn operates this cafe in the basement of a building in YoungDeungPo. His online cafe is at http://cafe.daum.net/RCCAFE Flying in US is also done in clubs. I belong to a club here in DC area called Capital Area Soaring Association, one in Los Angeles called Silent Wing Soaring Association, and another one in New Mexico called Albuquerque Soaring Association. Although Mr. Sohn sells RC products, his first love is driving RC cars and flying RC planes. There is another flying club that might be less commercial and more to your liking in Bundang. They fly in the large grass square in front of Bundang City Hall. You can check them out on any given weekend. Several of their members fly discus launch gliders but I have also seen many small electrics brought to the field when I was flying with them back in 2004 - 2006. Check them out online at http://cafe.daum.net/bundangglider?t__nil_cafemy=item

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, Correa. That's very helpful advice and information. I gave you a PM just a while ago. I look forward to flying with you too. You seem a capital fellow.

I guess this is hijacking the thread a bit, but is there an English-speaking RC club in Korea? Even though my conversational Korean is great, I hate reading the club web sites in Korean and replying in Korean (I type and read in English at mach 2 but I do so in Korean at a modest stumbling meander). My Korean speaking and hearing comprehension is up to speed, except for some Chinese-character based intelligencia words. I just don't want to sound like an idiot on the web board, and have to spend dozens of minutes just to type in a few sentences.

Thanks, and feel free to PM me if you do have such a club!
