I use dryer sheets while the iron is hot. Cleans the iron right up!

Aerogloss thinner. Wipe it on, wipe it off. Aerogloss won't attack the material on the iron, but it sure eats up covering goo.
You don't want anything abrasive because you're going to be sliding that thing over the covering and any rough spots will scratch the finish. |
