Found out in a hurrythat lipo's are fradgile!

Been using nicads for years and recently (about a fortnight) swopped to lipo's.
A glitch crashed my spitfire and now my new TP 3C is punctured and smells.
I'll buy another lipo but will also stop useing GWS micro receivers.

Well Iv'e left my dammaged 3 cell battery outside for 2 days now and nothing has happend yet. When I squeeze the dammaged area you can see fluid but it does'nt drip out but it smells. One cell is good. What do I do next.

That is not a reliable means to discharge a LiPoly.

Testing has shown this does not necessarily work.

"So can't even salvage the cell that isn't punctured?"
You can try to save the remaining cell if it isn't damaged but what would you do with it? Don't set it on fire during dis-assembly.

Sure you can. The biggest problem would be using it. You'll either need to use it as a single cell in a low voltage application or obtain a new cell to pair it with. The problem with the latter is that the cells come matched to begin with, now you have one used cell that will be difficult to match with a new one..... charging and discharging at equal rates may be a problem, a balance charger may help in that circumstance. It's going to be tough to justify trusting it in the air.

It's much safer and easier to take a bad cell out of a 3 cell pack and turn it into a 2 cell than to do the reverse.

This is where A123's are good. I lost a brand new $160 pack because of a glitch.
That was on a ducted fan doing 100mph 4' off the deck. The only other thing to break was a servo gear.
