Micro BL soarers, sub 10 Oz.?

I've got this Czech made glider, the Whistler...
The wing that came with this thing is way too heavy. I'd say it's even almost a joke, considering the feather weight fuse of this plane.

I want to make it into something like the Kelly with a DD CD-ROM motor and micro gear as a R/E thermaller. I weighed the fuse with a GWS RX, two Pico servos, the motor and the Phoenix controller with a 6 cell AAA pack, the whole assemblelage came out at a little over 5.5 Oz. So a scratch built, film covered, split CF rod 'n balsa, 48"wing and a Graupner 4.7X2.5 folder shouldn't add more than 3 or 4 Oz., should it? The fuse for this plane is crying out for micro gear. Whaddya think? Also what about suitable airfoils, maybe just an Eppler 205?

Radical RC is developing a backyard glider for IPS power, about 7 oz auw. Maybe they can give you some ideas. It was shown in the latest RC Microflight mag.

I haven't seen it on their site, but it's still in prototype testing. I just saw it in the new RC Microflight mag. No specs were listed other than IPS power and 7 oz flying weight. Call them and see if they can share any numbers with you. This could open a new area for parkflying, if it thermals well.

Just for reference, I made a total carbon fiber(minus ribs) 84" wing for a glider that ended up weighing about 5.5oz., so 3-4 oz. seems very reasonable...
