Hyperion E-meter Issue

I have a hyperion E-meter with dead batteries in it. I tried charging it via a battery like I was told but it wont charge. Is there anyone that knows what size the batteries are and if u can buy them??? I called hyperion and they sent me a data sheet on the cell but I cant find them anywhere????

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'd be curious to see what you come up with. I've had mine for going on two years now. Just recently wondered how long the cells would hold up. Maybe I can help you source some new ones. Can you email (mattalbr AT yahoo.com) me the data sheet on the cells please?

Thanks,
Matt

One idea: we might be able to use the cell dimensions as a guideline and find a cordless phone battery pack that uses similar cells.

I just sent an email to Philip Connolly. I'm pretty sure he's the guy that created the Emeter. I asked where we could possibly get some of these cells and also gave him a link to this thread. If he responds to my email, I'll post the reply here. Hopefully he'll just pop in here and let us know what he thinks.

Possible pack

4 cell (4.8 volt) /110 mAh NiMh battery pack. We use this pack with the MGK for Free Flight

Send them an email to see what the cell dimensions are. Let me know what you find out. Probably have to 'customize' it for our needs but that wouldn't be too hard.

That's not a problem Jack. This guy's pack is actually dead. We're looking for replacement cells. I do charge mine by hooking up to my PS for a few hours or just hooking up to a lipo pack for a few hours. No cell lasts forever and I've recently considered what I'll do when they die. Alan has gotten the ball rolling for me now!

Just opened up the EMeter and the cells appear to be AAA in diameter and about 1/2 as tall.

Dunno if this will help, but it's direct from Hyperion:
The cells are GP11AAAM.

After doing some searching, I can't find any place in the US that sells the cells. They're commonly for sale elsewhere. This place in Australia has them. Maybe we can order together and save on shipping. I have a few friends who also own the EMeter and they may want to order also. I'd take care of it and then just mail you yours.

Cells are appx $2.09USD each and S/H would be appx. $8.00USD

Did they go dead all at once, or did the slowly start to loose capacity?

I read where someone had an Emeter, that was dropped in shipping and one of the tabs on the cells in the meter had come loose. Hyperion even acknowledged that the tabs were weak.

He opened the meter, and just soldered the tab back on, and all was well from their out.

Might open up your meter a take a look...

Email sent 5 minutes ago - the cells are AAA diameter and are individually 1/4 as tall, with two pairs of two end to end to bring them up to 1/2 as tall.

Should note to be careful when opening up the EMeter. I didn't have any problems but was very deliberate. From Phil:

My suggested technique is to place an inch of adhesive tape over the tacho hole, which will act as a hinge and keep the top of the Emeter together. Seperate the case halves at the bottom only as much as is necessary for access to the battery pack. Without this care, the ribbon cable will likely be damaged. I would also stress that this work should only be attempted by a qualified person with the right tools.

Found a possible local seller. BullDog battery is right down the street. I emailed Dantona yesterday and they replied stating I should go to BullDog, their local distributor. I believe that they're right down the road from me!

We'll need 4 cells each. Jack said he's in. How about you Alan?

Response from Dantona:
THE BATTERY YOU REQUESTED CAN BE PURCHASED AT OUR LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR
LISTED BELOW, ASK FOR A "DANTONA" PART NUMBER...

Got a reply from BullDog. Can get these cells for $2.50 each. That's local so there's no shipping cost to get them to me and he can have them 2 days after I ask for whatever quanity we would desire.
