carbon vs. balsa weight
Does anyone know the weight per mm2 of balsa versus carbon? I'm just looking for a few constanta to play with designing a plane....Thanks Ken

If you want an area comparison then you must specify the thickness. In volume, however, I'd say CF is lighter. Not much good alone, however, as it's not very stiff - best laminated, formed, or otherwise with epoxy resin. This will add significant weight, but you don't need much CF for equivalent tensile strength.

the specific weight of balsa is 0.1 (that is gr/cm^3) and the carbon with epoxy( done as it should) is 1.6.
however, you don't need as much carbon to get the strength of balsa, and you would probably take some weight off the airframe, but it will cost you much more...
