What is the best power supply for a Schulze

I have a 10 amp pyramid power supply @13.8 volts
that I was planning on using for the Schulze isl 6-330.
The manual says 12v car battery only. If this
rings true than this is a bummer. What are all you Schulze
owners using with success? I would hate to ruin or shorten the
life of this really cool charger. I want to be able to use it in the home and also in the field.

Any help would be great...

Thanks
Chris

Schulze manuals have long said "battery only" but if you check you'll see they actually sell a power supply for use with their chargers .

10A is way too low for the maximum capacity of the charger but if you're only charging relatively small batteries, say up to 10cells, it should still allow maximum current. It certainly shouldn't damage the charger. My old 6-430d has worked fine for ages on a 13.5V 15A supply.

Thanks Steve

Steve,
Thanks for clearing this up for me. I feel much better.
Now if I only would have bought a PS that rated higher
amperage....live and learn!

Hi.
I'm using a powersupply from an older PC computer with my isl 6-330.
Mine is rated at 200W and 8Amp at 12 volts.

It charges 10*24000 mha cells at 5.5 amp without problem.

But I would have liked a more powerfull powersupply if I would
increase cell count now I would not be able to charge at 5,5 amp
maybe only at 3 amps.

DesertRC - the rated charge performance of your charger is 130W. Your power supply can output 13.8V at 10A = 138W Therefore your power supply will be just fine - no real need for a higher rated one.

I have 17A power supply I got from Aveox several years ago. I routinely run both my schulzes (isl 6-330d and 6-636+) from it, though not at the same time, as well as the FMA SuperNova, Astro 110D, GWS MC2002 and occasionally the little Jeti. Sometimes I have two or three chargers going at once (but must watch out when charging large packs). No problems.

How do you like your GWS MC2002?
I was thinking of getting one for small park
packs... 370mah nihm's etc. A good back-up
and field charger type deal.

You must not get either R/C MicroFlight or Model Airplane News (where a short piece I wrote about it has appeared....)

Short version: 0.25 to 6A charge rate on up to 12 cells. Soft enough peak for NiMH, easy to use (old fashioned knob and analog meter for setting charge rates) and less than $40. What's not to like? I have two now..... one lives in my daily vehicle just to keep it handy for impromptu flying.

Howzat?

...on knee's bowing

Ahem...ahh..yeah...I read it ...ahh yeah that's it.

No I didn't, but now I will, just because.

Thanks for your response!

I am not a newbie to flying but pretty new to e-flight.
Ezone rocks. I pretty much do a search daily for tips
and help. I really enjoy the freedom of e-flight etc.

Thanks again...I am off to AeroMicro to order a GWS chgr.
