Glad to hear D Squared is still in one piece,it sure is a nice model. I had success tonight both flying and capturing the F-88 on video.It's uploading now and I'll post a link when finished

Thanks CA. I think I have posted here before, but it was a while ago. Been lurking since. Following the builds that everyone else has been doing and thinking of projects. I do have a plan to do a 56" Quickie eventually. I have the plans and have gotten a quote on the cores. I also have other "normal" planes in the queue that I would like to do. But I do enjoy looking at the designs that others come up with.

Charles your very welcome,it was pretty akward trying to video with the cam rubberbanded to my hat, that's what the loud THWAP! was near the end:0,it came off lol

Hi guys, Sorry to say the maiden of the quickie did not go well. I had several ROG attempts but the plane kept ground looping into the grass due to me over controlling. The track I was trying to take off from was really narrow. I decided to attempt a hand launch and that didn't go so well. I had the COG actually a little aft of the recommended point so I was expecting the plane to want to climb but it just went nose in at a perfect arch. The canard was definitally not producing any lift at all and the elevator controls were worthless.

I don't know if I'll give this design another try or not. The plane was kinda a pain to build. I might try to find a nice Long EZ to try next and from now on all canard planes will be ground launched from me

Kenver, I goofed and posted info for you on Lost Soul's video thread. Just go to our post 1043 and click on the video to see shots of my Soar Star and Wingo canards.The CG on the Soar Star is 1/2 inch behind the black nose of Mickey Duck.The decalage must be 3.5 degrees positive and requires the TE of the canard to be raised a bit. The distance between leading edges is 25.5". Charles

Harrier with a pusher Canard?

Here is a slightly unusual question:

With enough thrust, non-canards can harrier (slow, high AoA flight) by
tilting the nose-up using prop-wash over the elevators.

Can a pusher Canard also harrier?
My guess is that one would try to harrier by having the prop at the rear
pull air across the canard/elevators.

Oh, I figured out why it crashed with the help from Steph280. Probably a combination of things and exactly what Mustang said along with the fact that I had the elevator reversed. I wasn't even thinking and just set up the elevator as a standard airplane. That is a huge lesson learned. I'm going to buy another kit and get it right this time.

They can simulate a harrier with a headwind... they'll fall out of it as soon as the foreplane stalls.

The tractor power system blows air over the control surfaces allowing you to hold the nose up and hang on the prop plus the air defected by the wing.

The canard with pusher... you can't control the plane without some speed because there's no propwash over the control surfaces. So you can't hang on the prop wash... and when really slow.. you don't have the propwash over the wing to help hold it in the air.

Going by what I've seen, a tractor plane with reversed-VPP in a nose-down attitude would be much like a conventional pusher attempting to harrier/hover. Watching even the best of them performing this maneuver makes it seem much more a tenuous balancing act than a controlled and sustainable routine, albeit some do it better than others.
