Me too on the "Skip the Optic" advice!

It can be made to work but you'll have to push the radio programming to the limits to get it to work and you'll not be able to support some of the more complex setups.

My experience was on a flaperon DLG (2 servo wing) and I was able to make the Optic work but it was fairly complicated to program. After a little goof with the battery connections (thought I killed the radio) I updated to an EVO9 and haven't looked back...

BTW Hitec service was great after my battery goof, they took care of the repair VERY quickly.

I love my Evo 9, but the Futaba 9ch is a cheaper (but not as good, imho) alternative. If you are a lefty, then you'd need a 9c, different switch location.

We had an earlier thread, "http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=407517&page=4" 4 pages worth, on criteria and radios where many people contributed information. This topic comes up periodically, perhaps the moderator could consider making it, or another similar one, a "sticky" at the top of the forum.

Hi,

The EVO is indeed pretty much ok... especially after I fitted mine with the original Multiplex "rubber ducky" antenna ment for their 3 & 4000 series TX. Range is still sufficient for flying DLG without having this big antenna wopping around !

I love my 9303...Way easy to program. All the menus are straight forward and the scroll wheel is a thing of beauty in functionality...in my opinion. It's designed like a good website: less button pushing and less submenus to get you where you want to go, quickly...

FWIW,

I have narrowed it down to the evo 12 or the stylus, I Will start looking around for something used. There is a group of guys that fly dlg out of the bay area r/c club. I will try to get out and see some set ups. Thanks for all the info, and feel free to throw in your two cents on any radios for dlg and slope. thanks!!!!!!

Ack! You're killing me! I have two Multiplex Cockpit MM radios and I REALLY, REALLY want the SX for my next. I like smaller and lighter, and the synth and the new mixes look great!

But HiTec won't let me have one! They're the distributors of Multiplex in the US and they don't want the extra competition for the Optic 6.

I'm lazy (and want to save answer here for prosperity). What do you get with the EVO 9 that you don't get with the EVO 7 (besides the two extra channels)? AND how does that pertain to your DLG flying and programming?

The Evo 7 and Evo 9 are two fifferent beasts with the same basic case. Evo 7 has channel locations programmed in like an Asian radio. The Evo 9 gives you more flexability. Also, Multiplex no longer sells the Evo 7. The Evo 7 sounds like the old version of the current Cockpit SX which, we cannot get in the USA.

I have had Evo's, P4000 and cockpit mm's. Like them all. Do yourself a favor and buy more radio than you need. In the long run it will be cheaper than buying two transmitters. I'm currently using the 9303. Like it a lot. You can find some reasonable deals on them on the used market.

AAAaaahhh, that's why I can't put right Aileron on channel 3 and Rudder on channel 6 blah blah. Might have to upgrade, cause that's what I wanted (not the channel assignments listed above, but you get the idea). What about programability? Is there anything that I'm missing out on here?

Have had an EVO 9 for the past years and never felt the need for anything else. A friend of mine had a Cockpit, a 9C and recently moved to the EVO 9 as well. Don't know about JR, but as far as my horizon reaches the EVO rules.

Lavawing I feel your pain!

I guess you're going to have to wait and see what the rumoured new Hitec 9 channel radio is like. Perhaps it will adequately fill the shoes of the SX in the USA.

Like you I have an MM and it has been really nice to step up to the SX. If it hadn't come out my choice would have been the Evo 9 but I'd have bought a single channel module so I could always fly even if I had problems with the Evo Synth module.

And by the way guys, the Multiplex synth 7 channel IPD receiver is absolutely awesome! It's small, light and easy to select channels. What makes it outstanding IMHO is that I fly at a site which gives us tremendous glitching problems. Even 2.4GHz gets glitches! The Multiplex Rx provides a reliable link, and that's saying a lot for any receiver at our site.

Go Great!

Hi guys,

Happy new year everyone

I'm a bit late into this, and i guess that Dave may have already made his decision/got summat by now. If he's still thinking this will confuse things for him further

I've thus far always used JR radios here in UK, but have just got hold of a second hand EVO9 from a friend. My son has had one for 3 years and it's programming capabilities are simply awesome ('almost' only limited by your imagination). Incidently, agree with the comments above - the EVO7 is nowhere near such a versatile unit - for 'lots' of reasons, if you're considering an EVO - go for the EVO9.

However... my mate has just bought one of the new Cockpit SX trannies and for dlg use, in my view, this might be the 'VERY BEST CHOICE'. The only reason i preferred to get an EVO at this time, is that my speciality is complex programming, and the EVO 9 definately has the edge there - though much more expensive.

When you hold the new Cockpit SX is just kinda feels 'perfect' - and dead small, so you can stuff it in a small protective bag/box and then in yer rucksack for the hike to the hill/field/whatever The programming interface looks excellent too, and much more than you'd need for most projects. My mate and i have not done much with it yet, (just kinda hold it and admire it...) but i feel certain we'll have lots of fun with it.

The only thing that's really 'daft' about it is the i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-y long aerial that Mpx have used... surely not necessary (much longer than an EVO one!), and i feel most will soon be looking to fit a smaller alternative.

Note of caution!
If you're left handed then, for hlg use, the Cockpit SX may not be for you! The push-to-make switch used for pre-set rolls etc (but would be used for pre-set elev/rudder on a discus glider) lives on the LHS of the trannie... but for lefties this would be 'useless'. There IS another similar switch on the RHS but this is nominally a 'throttle cut' switch... and from (admittedly only a quick scan) of the instructions, i don't 'think??' you could re-program this for the dlg preset functions. (If there's someone who knows how to do this, then i stand corrected - please tell )

Lefties check this out

Regards to all, Andy
