To warren and those who scale up the micropitts:
I am very interested in your effort to scale up the micropitt. Like many I found the RFFS system a bit too steep and I have lots of pico servos / micro rx lying around which i would like to use. I have a few questions:

1. By scaling it up 75% you mean 1.75x of original right?
2. Do you have to use thicker balsa since the scale is now different?
3. How do you mount the GWS IPS unit to the plane? Any pics?

I've got a crazy idea: I'm thinking of stuffing some standard micro gear (15g worth) and a DD dcm 189 motor set up in the little pitts. I'll be ending up at about 4.5 oz auw with about 5.5 oz thrust. Think it'll work?

I like your idea too. I printed out the plans for it, but am having a little trouble scaling them up. I need a photocopier...
1.75% sounds about right.

What prop do you plan on using, and what material for the airframe? I've been having pretty good results with a 4.5x4. But have no exact thrust measurements on it with the J250.

Does this style of construction have a name? Chris3D's planes work well for 2x enlargment. I would like to see some warbirds done with this method. I may attempt one myself in the future.

Do you design the plane in 3D in CAD and then unroll it to a flat plane for templates?

I haven't decided on a power system yet, but I think I might put a J250 in an EPS 100 gearbox (6:1) which should yeild pretty good thrust results. As for the scaling and materials, I went too my local copy center and had them blow up the plans to 175% which cost me like $1.75. Since duplication of balsa exactly to proportion whith the plan enlargments isn't possible (can't buy 1.75/32 balsa sheet) I just doubled all the thicknesses (I'm using 1/16 balsa for the sheeting, 1/8 basswood for the cowl since it's a bit more durable, and 1/4 balsa for the wheel pants and wheels). It should end up a bit fat but that shouldn't matter since it's going to be ridiculously overpowered anyway .

I am having a little trouble deciding how to color it though, I wanted to stain it originaly, but the stain just doesn't look too hot on balsa, so I think I might just try the fabric dye.

Here is one I did a while back. Man I love this plane. Runs On A GWS Dual Drive IPS. And 8 NIMH. Pretty Much just scaled up the micro Pitts with minor mods to the LG and battery hatch. It is all peeled sturdy board with clear vinyl laminate. Yeah that is a real pic of it hanging on the prop too.

I have been planning on doing a J250 version of both the Pitts and the Moth from Chris Riley. I am running into roadblocks with DepronUSA and FoamFly.com... They don't return my emails...

Pierre, I went to a profile Pitts too, but smaller than Chris´Pitts, mine is 11" WS and weigh is 25 gms. is the smaller RC plane in Mexico!!!!!! I confirmed it is the JMP red one, the smaller is a plastic model 1:72 scale in the old Brian lecombr´s Pitts from England.

finished my lazer cut kit.
I left it unpainted to see what the weight would be.
27 g RTF + 5 g weight to achieve CG

Ouch! Nose weight! That's why I like the remote actuators...
You could run the the next larger size LiPoly cell and make some of that weight do some good... You get a little more power (or so it seems).
