Cool
The tail servo I use for T-REX 450

Futaba 3154 Mini Digital Servo
4.8V 0.1s 1.7Kg 7g
The gyro I use is GY401

It performs good.
Set DS to ON, Delay to 0;
Even for the gyro sens set to 80, there's no hunting.
That's the digital does.

9650 is quite expensive.
9253/54 is rather so big for 450.
Maybe 3154 is your suitable choice.

Hi Kenny,
Looks like an interesting find...whats the price on that servo in US$? It certainly is small!
Cheers

I got it from my RC retail shop here in China.
Sorry for not knowing how to get this stuff overseas.
Perhaps towerhobbies may have.

And the price is, from my side, 200 RMB,
that is, approximately $25 US dollar, for the currency exchange now.

using that for my t-rex SA and HDX300.. about the same price here in singapore. Heard that some are using it for all cyclics on a trex too.

To use 3154 for all cyclics is consuming the elec power, I think.
Anyway the Digital servo swallows electric. Guys.

Not a hard and fast rule but it is typicly the case, I saw a reduction of current to my RX when I swaped out HS-85bb servos for S-3150's on my Eolo.

The S3153 will be an even better choice once they come out. Same size, but with a ball bearing for the output shaft.

But I am using an S3154 now myself.

Also for the ultimate tail servo, check out the JR 3400G. Not cheap, but SUPER.

I think the 3153 will be better for the head but the 3154 does have a bit more speed.

Your ultimate choice is nice but I dont think it is truely the ultimate tail servo, check out the Graupner DS3781 .04sec 18Ncm?? I have heard very good things about it but the price makes the 3400G look like a bargin bin item

I'm running the futaba's on my tails now. I think I may go full house with them on all my mini heli's and put my standard servos in some planes I have.

OK,
First, let me tell you running digital servos on you cyclics is not too much consumtion of power. I have been doing it for a while now, and have not noticed shorter flight times, etc.

Second the 3154, was also design for cyclic servos, I have been using them in mine, no problems and the gear sets seem to be staying tight.

I have had these servos for about a month now, and all of them are working great on 6V. Center well, have a lot of torque and speed.

I really do not recommend this servo for the tail. It is small, precise and smooth, but not as smooth as the 9650. The Futaba 9650 is still the best recommendation for the tail for the most performance. I will try more tests with one of these servos on the tail, but the it will plain not be as smooth under load as the 9650 can be. Right now, speed is not an issue for the tail, it is torque. A lot of torque is needed to hold the Trex tail very well. The key is smoothness in all positions, the 3154 being a micro servo, will not be as smooth and consitant as the 9650, making it not as responsive in some tail situations.
