Bought Simulator need some help w/ it and Heli's in general...

Ok guys, I dropped some coin and bought myself the Reflex XTR simulator. I also bought a Heli-Max Rotofly Kit. So I am trying to setup my radio on XTR to help train me with Heli's.

So here is my 1st question. I am going to use my Spektrum DX6 radio for the simulator, but I only want to use 4 channels like the radio I will use with the Helimax. Since I know nothing about Heli's, I need to know what channels to assign for my radio.

Here are my options on XTR:
Tail Rotor
Elevator
Aileron
Pitch
Autorotation
Gyro Sensibility
Throttle

So what channels do I asign to what function? Remember, I want it to be just like my helimax radio, so only 4 channels.

I assume left stick up/down = channel 1
left stick right/left = channel 2
right stick up/down = channel 3
right stick left/right = channel 4

Right?

Next question, which heli on this software most closely represents the Helimax?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

The EHBG section "How helicopters work" may help you.

Most people fly mode 2 now, I think.

Thanks for the direct link. I had not gotten that far in the beginners manual. I printed it, and have just started reading.

So where does left/right/forward/backward CYCLIC fit into my list above?

Thanks again,
Matt

You should look up "aileron" and "elevator" in the EHBG glossary:

If you're new to RC helis it may seem overwhelming. whatever you do, DON'T GIVE UP! If you stick with it until you're comfortable with normal sport flying (on a standard collective pitch model) then you'll really begin to appreciate how much work you put into learning. Most pilots learn in "plateaus" where they are stuck with a certain skillset until "one day" something happens, then (almist like a light switch) that new skill (such as nose-in hovering) make sense and you just get it. The sim is an awesome resource. good luck and have fun!
