World´s smallest ESC for BL motors designed for model airplanes? Great for cd-motors!

I just received two brand new Jeti JES 04-3P controllers and boy are they small (compared to the older 06)! I´ll take some pictures of them within a few days but for now the picture from Jeti´s homepage is the only one I´ve found:

The ones I got is different from the one in the picture. It has very thin transparent heatshrink instead of the red type.

I think this will be the perfect match for our homemade cdrom-motors (I´ll be making a few to use with these ESCs).

The specs on the homepage are:
Dimensions: 25 x 16 x 4 mm
Weight: 2 gr without wires
Current: 4 A
Number of cells: 6 - 8 NiCd (mine says 4-8 on the sticker)
Brake: on-off

It looks excellent! What price are they? Are they generally available, or are these pre-production samples?

TIA,

Neil.

Hi!

The ones I got here are samples but since they have them on their homepage I think it should be the production version that I got.

I´ll ask them about it. My ESC will run down to 4V (4-8 cells) but I´m pretty sure there will be different versions with two versions with litium cut-off (2 and 3 cell versions).

I actually though the type of cut-off would be selectable but it doesn´t look like it.

I will ask them and get back!

@Sparr: You can't use a Pixie for brushless motors!

The smallest brushless motor controller I have seen so far is the TMM 08-3ph. It is for 6-10 cells, 8-10A, has a 2A BEC and weighs only 5.5g without cables. Size: 33x25x5 mm. Is saving 3.5g worth having only 4A max.? Especially if you want to fly at partial throttle it is nice to have a higher rated ESC. Jürgen

The main reason for me personally wouldn´t be just weight, but size. There is in my humble opinion a BIG difference between 33x25x5mm and 26x16x4mm when talking about these small planes. I´ve seen the TMM-08 used with a cd-rom motor and sitting behind that little motor it looked HUGE(!). The new Jeti is much, much smaller and in my opinion better suited for these really small brushless motors (cd-motors that is).

But then again, these are samples. It´s not really my problem if they aren´t good (which wood be a big surprise since Jeti makes great stuff).

For sure, when the micro ISP replacement Brushless hits the market, this is the controller I want. Why would you need a 6 amp controller on a motor that will only draw 3? Smaller is always better. I want a brushless for Indoors.

I have some snap-shots (one really good!) now of one of my own controllers with a ruler next to it for size reference. Email me off the list if you want to see them because they are too big to attach here (about 200-250k per picture).

@Philipp: As I said, it may be beneficial (if not mandatory) to use a higher rated ESC when you fly mostly at partial throttle. Jürgen

mini bl motors?

ok, there are not enough people rewinding cd-rom motors to make a 4a esc profitable. are there any brushless motors that top out under 4A?

methinks there are some commercial sub-280 motors coming out soon... whee!

The fact that they have made a 4 amp BL controller gots to mean some sort of micro BL is due to hit the market. But where, when, and Why must I wait?

I have pulled 6 amps with my 15 turn running a gunther 5 x 4. It made me run the larger 600 Mah NiMh cells so I have since dropped back to GWS and APC 4.5 x 4 props that pull 4 amps at full throttle. I don't know how many amps it pulls yet but my F-22 is running on 8 cells 300 mah, a 4.5 x 4.1 and has an 18" wing span. It looks really neat. I have two controllers an 18 amp jeti that is hoping to mate up with a Mega, and a TMM 08-03 that is in the F-22 and is really nice. I may run two of the brushless motors with the 18 amp jeti.
