Here is a video of my maiden of this fun aircraft. I recently downloaded a video editor, so I was able to cut out the boring stuff. Enjoy!------Metalguy

Congrats on you're successful maiden flight.

Did you find it necessary to add ballast in order to achieve the proper CG?

Are there any 'baby' pictures of you're little Fokker?

No, I didn't add any ballast, and it flies really well! It is SO different from my other planes, and really easy to transport, too. My 1.4 meter Styka is a little large to just take out and fly... and the Vampire needs a bit more room, too. I didn't really snap any pics, but I guess I should. It is stock trim, and looks like all the other ones. Maybe if I have a "mishap" it will get a diffeent look... but I am in no hurry to have that happen!-------Metalguy

Hi Guys

I have been flying for over a year and half now, I own several Parkzone warbirds and I just love flying! I can't believe that this thread is already six years old.
I am looking at buying another airplane and I have decided on the Great Planes Fokker DVII, it is a beautiful looking airplane, good size and weight, it is a little different than my Parkzone plane, which have mono wings, WW2 era and all foam construction. I ordered some parts last week from Hobby King, a Turnigy 2830 1100KV motor, Turnigy Plush 30 amp speed controller and 4 HXT900 9 gram servos, the rest of the parts I can buy at my local hobby store when I get my plane probably at the end of June.
I would like to know if there are any tips that I should know about constructing this plane or flying it, landing tips so I don't nose over (all my other planes are belly landers)
I am in the process of reading through this entire thread so I can also get some tips from there.

Thanks Sabastian

Here's a link to my RCG GP Fokker D.VII blog page with loads info, links to other related sites, and a bit of BS that I hope you'll find helpful.

They do nose over fairly easy so one thing I did that helped was to move the landing gear forward about 1" and land under a little power so it doesn't suddenly stall and fall. That plus holding full 'up' elevator while taxiing helps keep the tail planted. I removed the tail skid and added a small tail wheel to help with ground control but the biggest tip I can offer is to make sure the wings do not have any wash-in to them. My upper wing had wash-in on one tip and was flat on the other so I had to heat it and re-shape it and added washout to both tips. It's a sweet little plane to fly and looks great in the air and I'm sure you're going to enjoy it.

You can also put a couple of washers between the gear and the fuselage at the rear attachment points and it will move the wheels far enough forward that tip overs are less frequent.

Hello Max Headspeed

Thanks for the link to your forum, I quickly looked through it and their seems to be a lot of information there, I bookmarked it so I can read it later on when I have some time. I saw that some of it was in German! Sind sie Deutsch!

Hello raz and Pat

Thanks for you suggestions about the landing gear and the landings, I will take note of it and write it all down so when I am ready to buy the plane I can make all the proper adjustments to it along with what others mentioned in the past 91 pages of this thread.

Thanks Sabastian

P.S. raz I like your picture and saying above it.

Has anyone done a mod to the landing gear to add shock bungees? I may do that with mine. I must at least 50 flights on mine and the only damage to speak of has been the langing gear mounts to the fuselage. The landing shock had broken the glue joints.

After many landings I noticed my LG/fuselage hardpoints starting to crack as well. As part of some other modifications I replaced the steel axle with carbon rod. The plane lost a little weight, which is never bad, and the carbon rod has some flex to it for absorbing shock.

Hi guys

Are any of you hand launching the Fokker DVII, it would probably be easier than taking of from the grass especially if the grass is long? It is a pretty small and light plane.
Thanks Sabastian

I've hand launched my little fokker when necessary...., just check that prop nut during your pre-flight.

What's your Fokker status?
