Legend Model Boats Lyman?

Anybody have any good rumors on what's going on with this one?

Based on Legend's website, it looks like the critical issues have been resolved, etc.

???

also, anyone know if this hull will be glass or vac?

I checked out the website and found this "The Cavalier's hull is made of Sintra®, which is a closed-cell, expanded plastic, high density PVC sheet. It can be easily cut without regard to grain and has proved to be an excellent material for model boats". Search through there, there is a lot of info on the boat. Mack products has it for sale at $280.

Yeah, I'm thinking if they used plastic on the Cavalier, they will probably vacuform the hull for the Lyman...

we'll see!

The Legends Lyman is real wood, real clinker built (as mentioned in my Sep/Oct 'On The Water' column!)

Hi Don,

I know the owner of MACK Products pretty well, and could ask, but from a recent chat with him, he told me that there had been some flak about his producing under the Lyman nameplate. I guess somebody got a little testy, and I'm not sure if or how that was settled.

Looking at the fact that this is a lapstrake boat, I'd think that going with the kit is a good idea, as it will be a pretty hairy build otherwise. You've done the
clincher-built stuff before, and know how touchy things can get with plank widths.

I always feel compelled to ask if plans are out there. I currently have a fiberglass clinker hull just waiting for inspiration. The Lyman build looks about right for my hull. Guess I will have to wing it.

Ooooo, it will be wood? Excellent!!! I've been thinking about how to do lap-strake! a good kit is a great way to learn!

Now, if it will only be released!

Wood, GREAT! glad it isn't vacuformed!

And if it isn't too early to ask... Sea Skiff!

Thanks for posting the pictures Pat! they make me want this kit even more!

Yhe model that you see in the picture has been built by Rich Kole of Mack Products. He built the model and was trying to sell the plans to Dumas. Maybe he has sold the plans to Legend Boats instead. Rich Kole builds both kits and scratch built boats. The grate on the hatch cover is made only by Rich Kole. I often drive up to his shop in Long Branch to buy my R/C supplies and see what he is building. He has about 25 to 30 boats in his back shop. He has a small machine shop in the back of his shop of which he makes his own hardware, and some of which he seels that is not available on the open market. I don't think he would sell just the plans.

Hi guy's. Thought I would bring you up to date on the LYMAN progress. All legal problems have been resolved with the use of the name and in fact, M.A.C.K. PRODUCTS is now an authorized user of the "LYMAN" trade mark. The process took about 6 months to hammer out ,(lawers and all), and all work on the kit was halted until approval was in writing. Once again work was started up on the kit and was going full blast until heart surgery. We are now back on track and are finishing up instructions, ready to send to DUMAS PRODUCTS for the manufacture of the kit. M.A.C.K. PRODUCTS is the parent company of "LEGEND MODEL BOATS" and owns the sole rights to boats manufactured under the LEGEND MODEL BOATS lable. The kit will be an all wood kit, lite ply, hard balsa, and mahogany veneer. A full running hardware and power package will be availabe as well as a light and sound package. Custom deck hardware will be made from polished alluminum bar stock as well as custom chrome plated castings. The release looks promising for early 07'.
P.S. The LYMAN kit is a lapstrake hull which is built with precut planks which are already lofted.

Way to go, indeed!!!

Will the deck hardware be included in the kit or bought ala-carte? I've looked at the new hardware on the Mack products homepage- looks nice!

I'll be buying the Lyman when it comes out!
